African Nations Cup Empty African Nations Cup

    Post by Sgoater1 Sun Sep 16, 2007 12:51 am

Who will be most affected this season ?

I was thinking that Harry Redknapp mustnt have heard of it cos Portsmouth with the signing of Diop now have 7 Africans (would have been 8 but Lualua left), if they all go then they could be fucked.

Utaka, Muntari, Kanu, Troare, Lauren, Benjani, Diop - Some important players, basically they will only have Nugent left upfront.

Chelsea obviously will be without Drogba, Essien and Mikel but they have Sidwell to come in and cover Wink

Arsenal lose their captain in Toure as well as Adebayour, Eboue and Song which will be a big blow.

Also Bolton might only lose Meite and Diouf but they are 2 key players.

Hopefully Eduardo will be settled in by then and the loss of Adebayor will be placated. Losing Touré will be a huge blow though.

Hadn't thought about the problems Pompey will have. Does Kanu still play international football? Has he not retired?

Not sure about Kanu, i think he still plays cos he is only 31 but i might be wrong.

They have to change when its held its stupid having it mid season it is bound to have a massive effect on teams like Pompey and its unfair.

When is it ? i hope we play Pompey during it. Very Happy

I am sure Harry will be signing players on loan deals in january to cover for some of them, any excuse to sign players for him.

I always thought Bolton had there fair share of Africans.

I think Kanu plays still. I might have mis-heard, but I thought the commentator in their match said that he travelled the furthest out of all the players on show during the international break. I thought Lauren retired from internationals some time ago though.

They'd probably lose those fixtures anyway to be honest.

Bolton is the type of game they should be looking to get points out of though, and obviously Sunderland

Martins and Geremi will go. I don't think Faye and Beye really bother with internationals though.

The only teams we face during that period that might be missing players are Arsenal and Everton (Yakubu). We dont have any African players so we wont miss anyone.

There's a big possibilty that they'll drop quite a few points. Reading are a potenail slip up too.

They change it all the time, hence the lack of consistently. Last time it was some dude from the Nigerian league, can't remember his name and Kanu. Yak was on the bench, I think.

scratch Why? He's got an appaling goalscoring record for them.

    Kanu 13 in 67
    Martins 11 in 17
    Yakubu 14 in 32

Because he's got the ability that both of them lack, to bring others into play and hold the ball up really well.

Sometimes they do deploy Kanu but deeper. At the tip of a diamond or in a 4-3-3

We always bitch Portsmouth at Fratton Park. The only game that I'm concerned about is the Liverpool game (although it is at home which improves our chances of winning by about 50%).

No Essien and Mikel(touch and go for Nigeria anyhow) and they are only missing Sissoko. Expect Mascherano to piss all over your midfield.

Kanu isn't a very good target man, he's weak as water and not good in the air, I would much rather have Martins as the SS making runs down the channels with Yakubu hanging around on the defenders shoulder.

I wouldn't have him playing headers like a Drogba, I'd play the ball into his feet like Pompey did yesterday.

Who's to say Mascherano will play (and more importantly play well)? If it was at Anfield I'd say an easy win for Pool. Our chances of winning this match have increased by at least 50% simply because the match is at the Bridge.
