Apparently he would rather play for Holland in the Olympics than in Euro 2008 !

Seedorf, Van Bommel and Makaay all have said they also wanted to go to Being....my guess is they're more likely to be called upon than that hasbeen.

Highly unlikely that Kluivert would be in the squad for Chin-a..there are like 10 strikers infront of him!! <Ale>

Holland usually have a Vennegoor of Hesselink type of striker as pinchhitter in the squad. Don't think Makaay is a supersub, actually Kluivert could be a great one if he's fit again. Makaay has to compete with Van Nistelrooy and Van Persie. Problem for Makaay has always been that his main strengths are in counterattacking. That's why he has made so few appearances for Holland.

Kluivert will not go to the Olympics, because the manager who has to make the choice is a wise old man, who will go for more reliable players.

I think Makaay could be very effective coming off the bench if you use him well. One thing he has never lost is his predatory instincts. Being a goal down in the final stages of a game with Van Persie and Robben bombing crosses in at either side of Makaay and RVN would strike fear into any one's defence.

It's insanity even putting Kuyt in that list as he has regressed since joining Liverpool. And putting him that high implies we have a dearth of strikers which isn't true at all.

The only reason I'd take Kuyt is to lump him on RW if needed to.

    Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink
    Roy Makaay
    Ryan Babel
    Danny Koevermans
    Marradonny de Groot
    etc

    All much better use...

He was the first player on the Dutch teamsheet before he went to Pool (WC-qualification, the only time we did well under MVB).

That was on the RW though, for some reason he's never been played there again.

I would definitely take Kuyt and play him as RW or RM (not as striker though).

Kluivert stopped caring in 2002, then got injured, had some unfortunate transfers and then got injured again. To be honest, I don't even know where he's at now! Last season he was at PSV, where he showed some moments of utter brilliance when he was 100% fit (I really wnated him to play in the CL). But he's too often injured now and even when fully fit, his legs can't last 90 minutes anymore - he can last 60 minutes, but after that he needs to be subbed. If he plays 60 minutes he needs a week rest. He's brilliant as a a supersub striker though.
