Woodgate set for Boro Empty Woodgate set for Boro

Post by DS Tue Aug 29, 2006 4:52 pm

Skysports.com understand Middlesbrough have won the race to sign Jonathan Woodgate.

It is believed that the Real Madrid defender is currently undergoing a medical at Middlesbrough after opting to make the move to Teesside.

Real are willing to loan out the former Leeds and Newcastle defender so that he can get valuable first team action under his belt.

Woodgate held talks with Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate on Monday about a possible move to The Riverside.

Newcastle, Valencia, Villarreal and Portsmouth all expressed an interest in his services, but Woodgate is believed to have decided to make the move to Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough have agreed a season-long loan deal with Real for Woodgate with the possible option of a permanent move.

Should Woodgate successfully come through his medical the move should be tied up in the next few days before the close of the transfer window.

Woodgate's arrival at Middlesbrough would come as a massive boost to Southgate as he has been chasing a new defender all summer and the England international would ably fill the void left by Southgate's move into the manager's seat at The Riverside.

we need a fit defender, if he can do it then yes we need him. If he's going to be injured for the season again, we dont need him.

He's still a cunt either way.

Loan, not a buy. Apparently he still wants to stay at Real to prove himself after the support the club gave him during his injuries

A cunt is a cunt, you know yourself with Bellamy.

If he plays well he plays well, wont make me think much more of him as a person though.

    Taylor > Huth

Buying Huth would be a bizarre move, it's not an improvement on what we've already got. scratch

He's a Chelsea reserve and now Boro won't be going for him i don't see where he can go where he would get first team football.

Deisler you suggest Metzelder and Mertesacker are good defenders and yet cannot rate John Terry ?

Why do people actually try and argue useing a bias tongue ? i know which one id have over the three, and they could all be of Chinese nationality and my opinion wouldn't change !

i rate terry as a solid defender, he is playing for chelsea, he must be good, he is a typical british defender, thats not a bad thing, but i think in other leagues he wouldn work that good

I agree that i doubt he could perform in La Liga, simply due to the amount of time and space some of their players are given, i do believe however in Serie A, Bundesliga he would prove a success. He does read the game exceptionally well, is strong in the tackle and air and against popular opinion can actually pass a football.
