    Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz has been named Barclays Player of the Month for December, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger handed the manager's accolade.

    Paraguay striker Santa Cruz scored six goals in as many Premier League appearances last month, with a hat-trick in the 5-3 defeat against Wigan.

    The 26-year-old, who has scored 10 league goals so far, is the first Blackburn player to win the award since Chris Sutton 10 years ago.

    It is the 10th time Wenger has been given the manager's award.

    The Frenchman's side have lost only once since August and sit top of the table at present.

    He also won the award in September.

    Well deserved for both me thinks. Amazing that the last Blackburn player was Sutton 10 years ago.

    Anyone else deserve to get it ahead of these two? Maybe Berbatov and Moyes?

    Wenger lost one and drew 2 in December. He also has some poor performances.

    Spurs had 1 loss and only 1 draw. So did Man United.

    Should of gone to Ramos, especially with the resurgence they've had.

    Suprising that Sutton 10 years was the last B'burn player to win the award espically when you consider even recently in the last couple of seasons what Pedersen, McCarthy and Bentley have done espically the latter who I thought had won one during the time he scored a hat trick againist the Mancs.

    Giggs won his 1st Player of the Month award last season .. I think, or was it Scholes.

    Giggs has also won it twice. Just watching him I cant put my head around he is the most decorated player in English Football

    Meaningless, we still got 14 points out of 18 in a gruelling fixture list. Oh and we raped Aston Villa in the first half of the game. <Ale>

    We were without Fabregas, Van Persie, Flamini and Hleb in the games against Boro and Newcastle, tell me a team that would perform against top flight mob up North without 4 key players.

    Hardly any shame playing poorly against Pompey, you yourself only drew to them earlier this season.

    With all of Wenger's lack of resources and gruelling schedule, people said we would not be top by the turn of the year, yet Wenger defied the critics and managed to do it.

    It's a fix. How is it that the likes of Scholes and Giggs haven't won it 10 times more than any Arsenal players?

    Yeh, i'm not convinced by the award. If anything, its probably jsut down to the fact that we're still top of the league by two points in a month were we were expected to flounder...

    lookin at the stats ramos was in with a shout but it certainly doesn't feel like we've been on manager of the month type form

    berbs was a better bet for the player award, back in a bullish mood, his touch has been sublime (as per) and scoring again bounce
