    The board has spoken!!!

    ---------------Casillas
    Anyukov----Marchena----Zhirkov
    ----------------Senna
    Sneijder-------Xavi--------Podolski
    ----------------Deco
    ----------Villa------Arshavin

Casillas, Zhirkov, Villa, Arshavin & Senna were by far the most popular.

But really other than Chiellini & Pepe who ran Anyukov & Marhcena relatively close for a place in defence, all other spots were won relatively comfortably by each of the players.

This is the BBC Sports Team XI as a comparison (4-4-2):

    -----------------Buffon
    Ramos--Marchena--Chiellini--Giovanni
    Iniesta----Senna---Sneijder----Arda
    -----------Villa---------Arshavin

I'd have Arda in there instead of Pirlo and would have picked different CBs but am the mind has gone blank thinking of more deserving names.

Srna deserves mention at RB and Kuyt who was Euro 08 MOTM Very Happy

I pick Pirlo because he was Italy's on real creative midfielder. And if the Italian strikers had their shooting boots on he could have quite easily bagged 3/4 assists.

Think he won offical MOTM twice too

    I liked Arda though

Not a single player from the top half of the draw in your team Calidad!

I'd probably have Podolski, rather than Pav; Xavi for Pirlo; and maybe go with the Spanish cb pairing (Chiellini was only really impressive in one match).

Arda, Schweini, Gio, Silva, Iniesta could all have a shout too

Well, the fact that you forgot some really great performances from some players means that at least according to my opinion the team should look a little bit diferentely.
Deco should be there, Xavi, Silva, Lahm, Arda, Nihat, VdV, Marchena...
I don't know why is Pavlychenko there, or Pirlo, or Anykov?
    My team:
    Casillas
    Lahm Chielini Marchena Zhrikov
    Senna
    Xavi Arshavin Silva
    Villa Nihat
Well, i can only have 11 players in the team. Very Happy

    Castrol Performance Index XI

Euro Board Official Euro 2008 XI Castrolindexxids8

This XI is based purely on statistics but it still represents a fairly interesting team from this years tournament.

On player who has surprised me was Chiellini, I used to consider him as a rather average leftback but now it looks like he will go on to be the mainstay in the Italian backline for years to come.

Wenger recently said that the tournament hasn't shown to many great performances from the centrebacks, I would agree with this, expecially if you compare it to other championships.

You can see why Real Madrid paid all that money for Pepe though. <Ale>
