Edgar's goal puts a different slant on things - it's cause for some optimism - it came out of nowhere really because Liverpool had so much of the play in the half, though I don't think it is an entirely undeserved goal, because we could well have equalised at 0-1 down had Duff not been, incorrectly, called offside when through.
Still, we have been pretty awful, and Liverpool have passed the ball around really well and they've ceaselessly carved chances. We, led by Nicky Butt, have no idea when it comes to keeping possession of the football, so we have to face one attack after another. N'Zogbia's touch has been awful, Gutierrez has been okay but he has ran into players too many times also, Guthrie and Butt have been absent, haven't tracked runners or covered the central defence at all well. Duff and Owen have worked but we are very ineffective on the attack - we can't hold the ball so we don't build moves, and we don't really have much pace in our attack so we can't counter - Duff and Owen don't have much pace anymore, Gutierrez is strong but he isn't lightening fast, and N'Zogbia, to me, looks heavy and leaden at the moment.
The defence has been all over the place. Coloccini has no idea what he's doing and he lost Hyypia several times before he scored Liverpool's second; Edgar lost his man a few times on corners; Enrique combines moments of great composure and technique on the ball with significant lapses defensively, as shown for Liverpool's first; Taylor has been the best defender of the lot, with a few good interceptions and clearances, but the defence isn't working cohesively at all, and like I say, the midfield aren't really helping. Given has obviously been fantastic - I thought a number of his saves were really top class - even the first save from Kuyt's shot was superb I thought, whilst he closed Gerrard down excellently a few minutes after that first chance.
