May well be so, but Carragher plays in every game, of course he will accumulate more mistakes. Agger & Skrtel are only playing roughly every other game now, and Rafa is probably picking which games most suit Skrtel and Agger's attributes. The Professor wrote:debaser wrote:As an individual he is not the greatest, but as part of a defensive unit, he's very good - he is ever present for Liverpool this season because he has experience and organises the defence, and generally their defensive record has been very good. Skrtel-Agger may sound good on paper, but Benitez doesn't trust them together yet, I guess because he thinks they don't have the experience. I expect Carragher will start to be weaned out over the next few years. The Professor wrote:Carragher is the most overrated defender in the world(well Puyol runs him close). The sooner he's replaced by Agger the better for Pool.
Benitez just doesn't want the fans against him at this moment IMO. Had he won the PL, It would have been easier to drop a fan favourite as Carra If even results don't go his way.
Watch next time Pool concede a goal Debaser, I bet you'll see Carra had some role in that.
Skrtel is the one that needs to succeed Carragher, and I don't think he's there yet. Agger should make the other CB spot his own next season with a new contract and free of injuries.

Hopefully Chelsea crush Blackburn (but concede a goal). Got an Anelka assist already, need Lampard to step up now...

God only knows how Ashley Cole hasn't scored this season. Must've had as many chances as Ronaldo and Lampard this season.

no more than any other defender has a role when their team loses a goal. Liverpool have one of the best defenses in the league, and as I said already Agger, Arbeloa and Reina have all been worse than Carragher this season.

I disagree
Arbeloa has had an excellent season, Reina has made a few mistakes but was brilliant up until the united game and agger has started how many games ?
I haven't really been impressed with carra in many games this season although rather ironically he was actually our best player today. Most of the goals we have conceded this season have been from set pieces so not really carra's fault.
It's up to skrtel and agger to force Rafa not to pick him though. At the moment neither are doing enough to force Rafa to do this

Carragher will become to Liverpool what Raul is to Madrid.

Important goal i believe that means he's joint topscorer with ronaldo. ronaldo is selfish and surely will want to play some part v hull now.

I find it hard to blame Carragher for any of the negativity this season. Our defense has been mostly rock solid and he's been an integral part of that. We didnt lose out on the title because our defense has been weak, we lost out because we failed to break down and score against smaller teams, especially at home where we should have hammered Stoke etc.
How many points do you think Carragher has cost us?

Our defence has been far from rock solid (compared to previous seasons)
Think of the arsenal game, the chelsea CL games, the home games against city, everton, hull (carra o.g.), wigan. All matches where we either dropped points in or made harder due to poor defensive displays. While United were winning these games 1-0, we were drawing them 1-1 or 2-2. This is why they overtook us.
I am being a little bit harsh on carragher, but his hoofing also doesn't help matters. I just want Rafa to view him as an option to sit games out, not just agger and skrtel

Brown skinned? check
6ft. plus? Check
Pacy? Check
Favours being on the left wing to cut onto his right? Check
Strikes the ball with venom? Check
Better in a counter attacking team? Check
Decent but not exquisite technique? Check
Can't head the ball? Check
And of course....
Loves a nice push & run? Check.
Henry has tonnes more vision & awareness, and always knows how to use the ball and his team-mates around him to create opportunities for himself and others. And he's good at set-pieces. None of this Babel has, with makes him quite one-dimensional.

I'm not sure why Carragher blew a fuse there, I don't think Arbeloa did anything much wrong in the preceding play. He was pretty close to landing one on Alonso after he'd come to pull them apart

To be fair to Didier today, he did stay on his feet after several robust challenges. He was off balance and where he would usually go down and try and claim a freekick he kept going. Don't see what is so funny about that? Didn't see Ronaldo doing that against Arsenal, at least Drogba made a vain attempt to stay on his feet.Ray Parlour wrote:Graham Taylor on BBC 5 Live: "I think Guus Hiddink must have had a word with Didier Drogba after the Barcelona game.
