    Dembele
    Vermaelen
    Fellaini
    Van Buyten
    Vertonghen

Whats their problem when it comes to International games? I mean i'm not saying they should be a world power in football but they should at least be qualifying for major tournements, yet somehow they can't manage to even challenge...

Most of those you list are young (under 25) - they have a good batch, but probably need longer. They should be looking to qualify for next Euros. Their problem will be, lack of recent success means they'll have a low seeding and get a tricky qualification group.

Look, Belgium aint a real country, the Dutch speaking part wants to go on its own and the Anderlecht v Standard situation wont help either.

Other then that they are already out, and then Belgium have troubles to motivate themselves.

This group IS talented, but next time the NEED to qualify! This group already failed twice now!

But they will get a Dutch coach now, to sort it out. Which is a HUGE step for them, since they absolutely hate us Belgium - whats their problem? F_biggri

A foreign manager might work, they really need to gel as a team (lots of divisions like fey says). they could have given the job to De sart too. He did great with most of them at U-21 level.

It is sad to see them in this state, nothing beats a good old holland-belgium imo. Unlucky at wc's as well! Remember that clear penalty against the Germans! Or that perfect legal goal against Brazil in 2002!

Eden Hazard too. Who is fucking awesome. Fact.

They seem to add up to far less than the sum of their parts. The majority of their players now even play for champions league teams (or have done recently):

To take the team that got absolutely dicked on by Spain:

    Gillet - decent
Vanden Borroe - Talented, could be as goos as Glenn Johnson for example, but not someone you want to rely on in defence.
    Simons - Champions league experience.
    Vermaelon - Champions league experience.
Fellaini - Plays in best league in the world.
Defour - Massively talented, technically good.
Vertonghen - Awesome, despite playing for Ajax.
    Hazard - Awesome. Fact.
Demebele - Very good player. Will soon have champions league experience.
Sonck - meh. Experienced i suppose.

There we go. Lots of players who still are nowhere near their full potential, but a good lot that should not be losing to fucking Armenia.

Still the talents of Axel Witsel and maybe Mirallas as well. Hows Poccognoli doing at AZ as left back is a weak spot.

Well some of them are quite poor! I mean, Belgium does lack a real good keeper. And Vanden Borre needs to play matches, cause he is not improving the last years anymore.

Simons works hard, but working hard will only get you so far.

The players are there though, but they have to break-up like Czechoslovakia! A Flemish side and a Walloon side, a national team with 3 languages wont work!

They lack a genuine goalscorer, Dembele and Mirellas even though very talented, not the ones that score that many goals. They could do with a Huntelaar, I wouldnt mind giving him to Belgium!

If Belgium would allow two or three of those Germans to represent them in the national team, they'd not only qualify, they'd reach the WC 1/4 finals, knocking Holland out in the second round. But what can you do when the Kroket - Bitterballen - Kibbelingen - brigade grease their way to the Belgian FA and discriminate everyone else. It's a sad state of things.

It looks good on paper, then again we are saying that for years already. And as things stand they wont go to 2012. Which is a shame considering on paper they are as good as Germany imo. But as with them, Belgium has toptalents rather then topplayers. Up front they still lack a player or two who are decisive for top clubs in top leagues.

For years I have heard 2012 would be their year, but it looks like it wont be. A couple of factors contributed to this imo:

    • Tend to have a bad, defensive coach
    • There are always a few below par players in their team
    • The downward spiral with seeding, after 2004 which they nearly missed and 2006, they only got into tougher qualifying groups, which makes it only harder to qualify
    • The country is really divided, can you be one team while the country clearly isnt?
    • Their obsession with Holland
They will need a bit of luck with their qualifying group for 2014. But the current crop really needs to improve in the upcomming years to make that. Otherwise it will be 2016 for them, which they will considering its going to 24 spots. By that time it has been 14 years since belgium played a major tournament....

Which is a real shame since the derby against them is always something special, and they have always been our best footballing neighbour.

As good as the team that has won every match in that group, which in contrast to yours is not a piece of piss, scored 22 goals while conceding 3? Get out of here!

They have quite a few talented players indeed, but lack a clear concept IMHO. A bit of a headless chicken syndrome at times, seem to be their worst enemy themselves.

Ale A problem with many international teams. Brazil currently suffering a similar crisis despite having a embarrassing number of brilliant players coming through.

Remember in World Cup 2002 when this happened against Brazil (a robbery) at 0-0:
