However, IN CASE SHIT HAPPENS (like the Mancs getting KO in group stage in CL, or L'pool and Chelsea falling short), the elite clubs go in this mode... "we'd better play with the starters to make sure we at least win the FA Cup/League Cup for our fans".

LEAGUE CUP / FA CUP
Something tells me that the big 4 teams use the FA Cup and League Cup as "in case shit happens" cups to please their fans. You know the elite teams are after Champions League, the league title, the UEFA Cup.

Great another uninformed post by Puro
The FA Cup is the oldest knock-out club competition in the world, and is considered a major trophey and holds much prestige.
And of course its for the fans you idiot, all clubs win tropheys for their fans

Judging by the big 4 approach to these cups, they're just "IN CASE SHIT HAPPENS" cups.

The FA cuo is BIG in England Puro, poor post.
If you progress all the way to the final it can be worth about £8-10m (dependant on home/away ties).
As the stats show above, the Big 4 DO take it seriously

Re: LEAGUE CUP / FA CUP
Puro the f.a cup started already so many teams enter it, there is like 12 rounds just before round 1.
The prem teams enter at round 3.
The league cup just covers the top 4 divisions. and the big teams often use reserve young players in it.

Get in!!!!!
3rd win in a row - front two both firing regularly, Skacel and Belmadi weighing in - we'll be back in the Premiership before you can call Pahars 'the Latvian Michael Owen'...

I won $10 dollars today with Everton. I saw their lineup on Setanta Sports, and put $20 dollars on them. Everton played with almost all their starters, but Petersborough gave them a tough time even though P'borough couldn't put two passes together to save their lives.
Man, that was that for me. No more betting on "IN CASE SHIT HAPPENS" cups' games.

Brian, EPL matches all the time. Same with Liga and Serie A, and especially Champions League. Serie A will be tough now that Juventus aren't there anylonger. Man I miss the Juventus' "guaranteed" wins of the last two years.
I've won two matches with Milan already. I figured they'd better start fast if they have any chance to win the league.

Re: LEAGUE CUP / FA CUP
Am I the only one that fancies Villa to atleast get to the semi's this year? I'm not talking about just tonight. They're the second most successful league cup side, they're a good team and Martin O'Neil has won it before.
An outside bet maybe?

I'm not a gambling man, but I had an inkling about Villa and the league cup ever since O'Neill took over. It's about their level - 4th is probably too much for the first season, the FA cup is always won by one of the big four, and Villa do have a competitive team. O'Neill's something of a cup manager too - great at getting his team fired up for big games.
