Re: Next Stoke Manager?
I think McCarthy is realistic shout, he prefers only slightly less horrible football than Pullis, so they can hire him and claim progress!!! Wondering if Hughes will be going for it, as he can consider Stoke to be under his level, but they will have money to spend.

Re: Next Stoke Manager?
Other than the relegated Martinez, Alan Pardew is now the 2nd longest serving PL manager at just 2 1/2 years.
I think Wenger has almost been Arsenal manager longer than all other managers' reigns put together. Only 5 managers left who've been at their current club for over 1 year!

We had some hope on this front today. Pardew will be meeting Ashley this week and then a statement will follow, Pardew has been talking about how he's sure he'll be here next season, in an attempt to shut people up, but the truth is no one has any idea what the fat controller is thinking.

His work for QPR was nothing short of disastrous, but Stoke can hope he will do similar to Blackburn, which had a similar players and Hughes made them a decent team. Similar approach, slightly better football, but can he do it again? If I would be a Stoke fan I would be scared as hell knowing that he will get a decent transfer kitty to play around.

Re: Next Stoke Manager?
Shame. Would of been nice/hilarious to see someone antithetical to Pulis and Stoke come in and try and really revamp their style. We're just going to see the same old shithouse Stoke but with less moaning in game and more moaning post game.

Re: Next Stoke Manager?
Stoke City appoint Mark Hughes as new manager
Stoke chairman Peter Coates admitted the club needed a fresh direction following Pulis' departure
and sees Hughes as the man to implement a more attractive style of football.
It has been reported that Mark Bowen will join Hughes at the Britannia Stadium as his No 2.
The Staffordshire club are to hold a news conference regarding Hughes's appointment at around 11am.

Re: Next Stoke Manager?
Bump.
Well deserved bump I guess, since he is doing a very good job there and it was not only us here who's been collectively wrong over signing him. Looks like they will have their 3rd TOP 10 finish in a row and their football much improved. Being kept on shorter leash Hughes once again proved to be a quality mid-table manager. Some really shrewd transfers (even Shaqiri starts starts to look like a bargain) and Hughes seems to have a great ability to work with troublemakers and underachievers, I never thought I will see Arnautović playing up to his potential.
They are still heavily relying on Shawross fitness though, without him their defensive quality really suffers.

I don't think being 10th in a really poor league makes you a good team or means you're doing a good job personally.

Re: Next Stoke Manager?
Yes, I know you are a sad puppy and you never happy. But I imagie Stoke City fans have to be quite content with that, poor lads...
I don't think they mind moving either from Begovic - Cameron, Shawcross, Huth, Wilson - Shotton, Whitehead, Nzonzi, Etherington - Walters, Crouch (final Pulis line up as Stoke manager) to Butland - Johnson, Shawcross, Wollscheid, Pieters - Whelan, Cameron - Arnautović, Afellay, Shaqiri - Bojan.
Terrible feeling when your club progress.

Re: Next Stoke Manager?
Fools are often the most content. They're 10th in possibly the weakest premier league season ever. Jamie Vardy, a tramps Craig Bellamy, has been tearing it up, and defenders have no answer to it, which is maybe no surprise given the rules on contact these days. Hughes hasn't been relegated, so in that sense he has defied expectations, but he's still just a bog standard coach.

Funny you say that because we (the guys AND gal that are interested in footy) were calling him similar in the office yesterday.
As for Hughes, he's doing better style wise, but results aren't much better.
He's always been good with troublesome reclamation projects, Bellamy was considered damaged goods when he joined him at Blackburn.
