Best 'Striker' in Prem history
Not forwards, so no Bergkamp, Zola or Cantona. Talking pure strikers - Shearer, Henry, Fowler, Owen, Van Nistelrooy, Andy Cole etc.

Obviously it's Henry. That shouldn't even be debateable. Far and away the best player of those mentioned.

Shearer is not better than Henry. It's a joke to suggest he is.

Re: Best 'Striker' in Prem history
I base alot of my comparisons on longevity, its something that is often overlooked. Once Henry has been doing what he has for nearly as long as Shearer did (10 - 12 years at the top), he would be in front.
Its why I wouldn't compare Gerrard to Keane, Vieira and Scholes for example.

Fair enough. I judge footballers on their ability not their longevity. Obviously it's not enough to just have talent, you need to display it...but I think Henry's been around long enough for us to judge him. Shearer was a good goal scorer though.

Re: Best 'Striker' in Prem history
Shearer in his prime 94-96, just awesome.
1. Shearer 2. Henry 3. Cole, would be my top 3.
Special mention to Sir Les aswell, in his prime he was on the same level as these guys.

He was top quality. That cruiciate injury was so cruel, people forget he was actually fairly pacey before that.Kimbo wrote:Shearer in his prime 94-96, just awesome.

1 Henry (the best all round striker)
2 Ruud (his goal to game ratio)
3 Shearer(the no of goals he scored)

You think his heading is as good as Shearers? Henry is the most skillful but when it comes to all round strikers attributes Shearer was top dog imo.
Volleys, freekicks, pens, one on ones, heading etc... it was all top class.

I dont agree, Ruud had what ? 5 seasons in the premiership, Shearer was banging goals in for a decade.
I remember from 94 to around 2004 he was lethal bar 2 seasons where he was injured he has not failed to score at least 21 goals a season !! infact during his prime it was more like 25-35 he was part of a very small group of clinical strikers you would put your house on scoring with the likes of Batistuta and Ronaldo (of course when fit)
If he had chosen Manchester Utd over Newcastle, theres no doubt in my mind he would be an English footballing icon. Instead we've had Beckham for the last decade

Re: Best 'Striker' in Prem history
@Kmbo
no he cant head a ball , and that is his only weakness , tell me another one.
@FG
Ruud has scored everywhere he played Hereveen(sp?) , PSV, Man Utd and now Real Madrid.
I dont think it is fair to rule out Ruud because Shearer has played more in England, if Ruud would have played as much matches as Shearer he would have scored lot more then Shearer has.
