Maybe it just seems easier to remember the bad results. What are the worse most embaressing results of your country in competitive games?
    For Portugal, in recent memory.
1999, Azerbeijan away..1-1. Could it get any worse?
2002, Finland home....1-4, oh the shame.
    2004, Leichtenstein away........2-2.
I think that there can be few contenders for such a shameful result.

As for the best result, maybe that was acheived in the '80s, when we won 1-0 away to Germany (Stuttgard?) to become, I believe, the first team to beat them in a home qualifying fixture.

So, come on, don't be shy, whats the worse your country did?

It wasnt a competitive match so I suppose I shouldn't have included it.

I wouldnt have cared if we'd lost 2-0 but 4-1 is pretty embarrassing. Why bother turning up if you're gonna put in that kind of performance?

    Very Happy

Sneijderman stole the show that night, despite RVN 3 goals.. (wasn't Sneijder 19/20 years old)

The way things are going at the moment (and if he gets his chance, and does plays in his best position) he will not be living of that 'night'

1993 Argentina 0 - Colombia 5 playing at The Freezer(see River Plate stadium)...the colombians were just amazing, best performance in Colombian football in the last 3 decades for sure...best team they ever formed too...get this picture, they played so well that the home ground applauded the Colombian team...that team should have been fighting for the 94 WC IMO...Tino Asprilla, Fredy Rincon, Alvarez, Valderrama, Wilson Perez, superb team...the game that rushed Maradona back to the national team

EDIT: sorry forgot to mention...it was a qualifier for WC 94

I agree with you on best and worse....

but the edit loss against Brasil were no offside goals! Romario scored the way Ruud van Nistelrooys scores many goals.... Remember 2004 against the Czechs....

I would like to add Italy - Oranje 0-0 were the Dutch missed 5 penalties. The Italians didn't win from us but we loss from ourselves!!!!!! I've never seen such a stupid lost against a poor country (that day)

Yes they were offside : there has been a change of rules concerning offside since then.

(I've always thought the Bebeto baby-celebration was a "we've been given a present by the ref" celebration...)

I don't agree. What I remember was the utterly embarrassing BBC commentary laying into the "anti-football" of Italy and how it was an absolute disgrace that they should be able to go through like that. It wasn't until you read some more considered stuff in the papers that the huge, incredible 10-man defensive performance from the Italians was recognized. Absolute class from Cannavaro and Nesta and I remember Del Piero putting in a tireless defensive performance too. Sure, you'd've won if you'd converted the penalties in normal time but don't think you deserved to – must have been terrible for you guys to watch, but hardly a "disgrace".

Of course the Germans have another opinion... Doh

We showed them every corner of the pitch, hit twice the post and we got two penalties. Not to mention the many other opportunities we've got that game....

The italians could only stop Boudewijn Zenden by fouling him, Zambrotta was completely lost it that game and got a deserved red card.......!

Totally clueless performance from Portugal (not taking anything away from Greece tough, well deserved victory on the night)

Russia 5-0 Portugal (Euro 88 qualifiers, can't remember now), where Rui Aguas broke is leg.

His mistake was letting his man get goalside of him, the tackle was just a disastrous attempt at recovery (if I remember correctly).

Le Saux got roasted by Petrescu for the second goal as well.

It was a disappointing tournament because of the narrow defeat by Argentina. I really thought that England team ought to have gone further. Hoddle was pretty much forced to play Owen and suddenly the team clicked.

Don't follow the welsh results so I couldn't tell you sorry. Probably though...

Still, conceeding 7 against the dutch isn't as humiliating as losing 5 against the Slovaks.
