6 locals? Does that mean English players or players coming through the youth system like Cesc at Arsenal or Rossi for us?
Cesc- Guest
Stupid.
It will dilute the quality of our league for sure.
Only a fool would say it would just affect Arsenal. Bolton would suffer just as bad for sure.

Will it mean that you will have had to brought the English talent through your youth team or he cant play?
So Carrick wouldnt count for Man U?

If only this was put in place a few years ago....
West Ham would've won the league about 4 times!

English players count, so Carrick, Rio and Rooney would count for us.

But I'm sure players who are foreign but come through your youth system count as well.
So Arsenal could use Fabregas, Senderos etc.

yeah I reckon so....
Arsenal's youth system would be fucked otherwise!
how about Spector? You produced him..and we now have him..would he count as a foreign even though you produced him

There are different versions of this being bandied about - some say 6 players have to have come through your academy (of whatever nationality, others talking about 5/6 players being eligible for the national team.
The latter would be farcical, particularly in Britain. English, Welsh, Irish and Scottish players all play in different countries to the ones they are eligible to represent but it's all a jumble, so everyone's happy.

Yep, I had serious doubts after his spell at Charlton, and wasn't exactly devasted when we let him go but he's looked good the couple of times I've seen him.
Hope he does well.

I have no problem with it, football is about producing your own players instead of spending £20+ for 1 player.

From what I understand out of the 6, 2 have to be your own players, and 4 more just have to be from the same country. So it shouldn't really be a problem.

It's almost certainly the former imo. The latter would be clearly in breach of EU employment law (and that's why the original rule limiting the number of home players was removed).
Which makes the whole thing a farce anyway - it's just about who's got the best scouting system for stealing U18 players.
The root of all of this goes back to Bosman and the fact that developing players doesn't generate a decent return for selling clubs any more.

Wouldn't it be easier for a team like chelsea to buy all the best english players and sit them on the bench, like SWP?
No-one else could win the EPL then.

I think our team would look something like:
--------------Cech----------------
Johnson-Carvalho-Terry-A Cole
-------------Essien----------------
Wright-Phillips-------------J Cole
-------------Lampard-------------
-------Drogba--Shevchenko-----
Glen Johnson at RB if he returns next season.

Arsenal would have to buy at least 4 English players. No wonder Dein and Wenger are some of the biggest critics.

Do they have to make sure this quota is in the first team or just the squad. If its the team you'd have alot of English or home grown players in your squad in case of injuries or suspensions.

Well there not likely to come in straight away.
We still have Foster, Brown, Rio, Neville, Scholes, Carrick and Rooney.
Plus loads of youngsters coming through to make the squad.

I'm sure we'd disagree Parks, but my two cents...
In a couple of years Scholes and Neville (and Giggs) will be gone. Brown is the only other one who's come through your system since the 'golden generation' who looks good enough for the long term (so far). Why do you think the next load of kids will be better? And what's more virtuous about buying other English talent (Carrick, Rooney) than taking fairly unproved foreign kids (Cesc) and bringing them through into the first team?

Foster, Rio, Carrick & Rooney will still be in the team.
& from watching the reserves I have alot of faith. Players like Evans, Gibson & Rossi will either be in the team or good squad players in a couple of seasons, once the likes of Neville, Scholes and Giggs move on.
Its pretty well known now that the Glazers are keen for us to invest in English players as well, part of the reason we never moved for Senna in the end and was desperate to get Hargreaves.

I wasn't having a go, just that by limiting the pool of players that teams can have, they essentially help the richest clubs to win the league because they will buy all the best ones, so there will be less for everyone else to buy.
They would have to try and poach 12 year olds and bring them to england, to eventually play for their teams or be discarded.
