Universally liked footballers

Thread inspired by the most hated footballer. Which footballers you think are liked by all fans irrespective of the teams they support.

I can think of Solskjear for one, inspite of the fact that he belongs to a rival club.

Others I can think of Javier Zanetti, Kaka, Maldini

Ronaldinho could be one of the list too

I will be controversial here and say that even though maldini is a great player, the way people kiss his ass, and he is so happy about it, makes me dislike him. Especially the things about him being loyal and staying at one club. Well if it's your home town, your club is one of the biggest in europe and is constantly winning things, and they are paying you a shit-load of money. It's not that hard to be loyal.

He is also not very good going forward for someone who is considered one of the best left-backs ever. Cafu is a better player, but doesn't receive half as much praise. I also think J Zanetti is a better player, but unfortunately neither have been able to bask in the glory of their respective clubs achievements mainly due to the likes of shevchenko.

Yes J Zanetti is definitely a better player, one of the best at what he does.

I think Henrik Larsson should be on this list. The acid test has to surely be someone who plays for Manchester United and STILL can't fairly be judged a tosser.

As Allez commented earlier. It takes alot for a United player to be universally liked.

In recent years I can only think of Ole who's done that. Giggs might be second.

I thought we were going by admired for their footballing abilities allez.. I don't see much wrong with terry's conduct either TBH. he certainly shouldn't be compared to rooney.

Oh OK, for me it was all about literally "liking" though, with great talent a prerequisite. For instance I think Rooney is a wonderful footballer with huge potential, I don't think anyone could deny that, but a more loathsome figure in football I'd find hard to imagine.
