Owen, Kewell, Ashton, Joe Cole, who else is missing?

Any way, will they ever be any good again, and will their clubs sell them because they are a liability injury-wise?

When a player has such a longterm injury, I can't see how teams can carry on with these players, or even hoping that they'll be decent again.

Of all these cases there have been only a handful that after a season-missing injury have come back to any form (Ronaldo) or have become even better (Van Nistelrooy).

Nevermind that waiting all season for a player to come back sometime, somehow can influence the entire season of the team he's missing (Ashton and West Ham).

Where does the buck stop? Or do people think in terms of loyalty, hope and wishful thinking?

mark delaney's another. he's quite likely to be gone in the summer as he's out of contract and been injured for the best part of 2 years. steven reid and ameobi are other examples.

it's hard to say whether you should keep the faith. depends on the type of injury and the character of the player. with villa, we've got laursen who's had a terrible time with knee injuries keeping him out for the majority of his 2.5 years at the club, but he actually does seem to have the character to work to come back and repay the loyalty villa have shown him by trying to get him back in the team. having said that, he went off injured again in his latest comeback (only a hamstring), but it gets harder to believe he'll ever stay fit long enough to establish himself in the team

The best thing for Dean Ashton if West Ham do go down is to stay and play. He won't have the same pressure on him playing Championship football and the season after would be ready for Premiership football.

definitely. can't see that any club would be willing to risk a big investment on him either, after being out for a season. and west ham should have enough money not to let him go on the cheap.
