Stuart Pearce has been sacked Manchester City, the club have confirmed.
City have acted after a disappointing season in which they flirted with relegation before finishing four points above the drop zone.
A statement on the club's website confirmed Pearce's contract had been "terminated" with "immediate effect".
City chief executive Alistair Mackintosh said: "The board of directors would like to thank Stuart for his hard work and service during his six years here at Manchester City and wish him well for the future."

Good timing IMO. It gives the new incoming boss months to prepare. Martin O'Neill only had two weeks remember.

After his interview on MoTD it was obvious he was on his way.

Warnock to Man City. That would be funny.

Jewell will be the obvious replacement unless they look abroad.

Has there ever been two manager's leaving EPL sides in one day before? Yikes

It was a well known fact he'd be on his way though. IMO Jewell would be no improvement. I think City will be interested in a higher calibre of manager than that. Sven?

Can't say I'm surprised. After a lot of early hype, Pearce hasn't really produced results and Man City have struggled.

Will any Premiership clubs be willing to take a chance on Pearce now, or will he be looking for a new job in the Championship?

Am I the only person that thinks that Jewell is not an improvement?

I can;t see why they'd get rid of Pearce and sign antoher manager that hasn't achieved much of late

Didn't Wigan get in the Carling Cup Final? They also acheived a good League position.

Everyone knew that Wigan would have had second season syndrome.

We need to give the English a chance.

They arguably improved their squad on last season, bringing in Heskey, Valencia, landzaat + a few others.

Jewell is a decent manager but IMO he won't make too much of a difference and IMO he can't make Man City a team fighting for UEFA spots

He did add well but he lost some good players too.

Chimbonda was one of the finds of the season last year. And lets not forget Jason Roberts who was a huge part of Wigans game plan.

Unless they get this significant foreign investment I can't see the likes of Sven being interested. Sometimes going for the classier foreigner isn't always the best route.

I don't know what the perception is in England about City, I'm thinking they aren't taken very seriously, but to me they seem like a real potential.

They have a large stadium with good attendance. Yes, they'll always be in Utd's shadow, but the support from the Manchester crowd seems to be there. By the look of things they have decent funds to bring in talent.

It seems to me, with my limited knowledge of the club, that they're a bit of a Newcastle club, in that they have the right stuff, they just don't know how to use their assets properly.

Maybe I should give them a hand...set them straight. Now that Pearce is gone, they might just be looking for a flashy foreign manager.

Well im not surprised to see him go and although i like the guy im glad the decision has been made. The take over is on the cards and its an exciting but nervous time to be a city fan, nothing new i guess.

To be honest i dont think Jewell will be the new boss, he has to much respct for Whelan to lie to him about wanting a rest and i hope this is the case as we need a top class manager to lead us into this new era.

If (as expected) the EX Thai PM takes over he will give us £50m to spend and im sure he will only want the best in terms of manager and coaching staff to guide us. I have it on good authority that Big Sam wants the City job but its all happend to slowly and he will take over Newcastle. If you take Jewell out of the equsion then it leaves the likes of Ranieri (the 5/4 fav at the moment), Sven, Houllier, Hiddink and Gullitt in contention. I know Coleman and Billy Davis have been linked but i really dont think they will get it.

Its a massive job but we have massive potential and have the base to be a top class club, now its just a case of waiting to see what happens.

No i heard he'd like the City one more (i know for a fact he doesnt want to move) but he cant be guaranted it. We could have a new owner by friday and nobody knows really who they will want in. This leaves Sam in a bad spot and he has chosen not to wait only for someone else to get the job and he be left high and dry. Therefore he has accepted the Newcastle job.

I just don't see why he would see City as a more attractive prospect. And i don't see why, if he wanted the job so much, he didn't just wait until Pearce left(it was always going to happen), he would always have been the best candidate for the job.

Cos he didnt know for sure he would get it. The reason he likes us so much is cos he admire's our fans and thinks we have brillaint potential. He loves the fact we have a great academy and he would be able to manage us without moving house.
