Thanks goodness I am on this forum so there can actually be some common sense and at least one rational person on here! Very Happy

The game will be close. It always is. I am worried about the US with no Bradley or Hejduk. Defense has been suspect and with those two out, we will just have to wait and see. The US has been pushed and has that "bend but don't break" luck so far. Mexico will have the best offensive attack the US will face. But this is the match up everyone wanted. I say the US in a close one, 2-1. But that might be more my heart than my head. My head is too pessimistic about this one.

For those of you on the other side of the pond, there is no bigger match up or rivalry in North America. And in case you didn't know it, these two teams just flat out don't like each other! If this one got ugly towards the end (ahem, Mexico), I wouldn't be surprised.

    US win it!

Bradley has put together a serious team here...I think they can easily get out of their Copa America group with Argentina and do some damage in the quarters/semis.

just watched the game and would like to point out some positives (both team) howard, sanchez are both fantastic goalkeepers. both of them pulled AMAZING saves this match sanchez pulled a casillas and saved 3 in a row, a dangerous gross a shot frmo outside the box and than less than a foot away he saved it with his chest. howard saved a certain goal with amazing reflexes. anyone who doubted donovan was a decent player should watch the past couple of games. feilhaber had an excellent goal. and olympiakos is gonna regret letting castillo play for mexico in copa oro and america because he had a fantastic tournament and shoul dhave a good one in copa america and he might get on some teams radars. guardado needs to leave mexico he was great as well. beasley missed an open net ok. great game very entertaining

Three words for this match - WOW!! WOW!! WOW!! That is one of the best, most exciting games I have seen! That lived up to all the hype. A number of thoughts on this one.

Where in the world did that Mexico team come from?!?!? That surely wasn't the team in the group stages or semifinals that showed up today. They played really well. Except for the blatant diving (which I am getting sick of - Mexico is better than that and doesn't need to beg for calls), I was impressed by them. Castillo and Guardado were awesome. Sanchez was on top of his game and made some great saves.

On the US side, they withstood an outstanding first half from Mexico. Once we got down a goal, I was a little worried. But the US came out on fire on the second half. Great goal by Feilhaber to take the lead and I thought the call on Ching in the box was the correct one. Donovan and Beasley played well but the US HAS GOT TO START MAKING THOSE GOALS!! I am sick of blowing wide open looks like Ching and Beasley had that would have put the game away. Great save by Howard at the end.

Overall, thought the game was well officiated.

Nasty collision by Spector and Guardado.

Sorry Borgetti got hurt but from a match perspective, glad to see him out.

Thought both teams showed each other a lot of respect at the end of the game and it was very clean. Both teams have a long way to go because they still don't like each other and there are still some hard feelings. But it was better.

Anyone in the world would have appreciated that match and it is a shame our European friends on here didn't get to watch that one! That is what football is all about and it lived up to the hype!

Come on messiah. The US wasn't lucky on that goal. It was an awesome strike by Feilhaber (I assume that is the one you are referring to).

Mexico had their chances as well. Great job getting so many corners. They had some great shots on goal and could have tied it, don't get me wrong. But Beasley and Ching blew wide open, EASY chances that would have put this game out of reach. Mexico had some chances but none were as easy as those two for the US.

Would have been a different game if Beasley and Ching had not missed a wide open goal also? Razz

I am not cheering the fact Borgetti got hurt but I am glad he was out of the game. It did help the US. With Bradley and Hejduk out, it helped even things up a bit. Very Happy

Another great thing about this game is that there may not be many rivals like the US and Mexico on an international basis. At this game, they were as nice as they have been to each other in a long time. Fans didn't boo during the national anthems. Players still didn't shake each others hands after the match and nor did they exchange jerseys. However, a couple of players did exchange jerseys. That itself should make headlines. And even the coaches talked to each other afterwards. I am telling you, there is no bad blood lost between these two and they still don't like each other. But today was good behavior by both. And a classic match at that!
