Spurs sign Kaboul Empty Spurs sign Kaboul

Post by DS Thu Jul 05, 2007 10:13 am

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of French Under 21 international Younes Kaboul from Auxerre.
The North London club have not released any details regarding
the fee, but previous reports suggest they have paid out £8.2million to
capture one of France's brightest prospects. Kaboul made 51 appearances during his time at Auxerre but has
now followed Gareth Bale and Darren Bent in joining Martin Jol's
ambitious side over the summer. Jol told the club's official website: "If you ask people in
France who is seen as the hottest prospect in defence they will say
Younes Kaboul. "We are very happy to have him on board. It's important to have quality players in defence and with Younes, we have that."
Kaboul will compete with Michael Dawson, Ledley King and Ricardo
Rocha for a starting role at White Hart Lane next season, and sporting
director Damien Comolli believes the young Frenchman has the quality to
make a real impact on the Premier League. "Younes possesses power, great pace and is good on the ball and strong in the air," said Comolli.
"He is a good leader who showed a great desire to come to us despite interest and offers from numerous other clubs.
"From day one he said 'I want to play for Spurs' and his
personality made a big impression on Martin and myself. He has been a
regular in the Auxerre first team for the past two seasons and is an
excellent signing." Kaboul's former team-mate at Auxerre, Bakari Sagna, has also
been strongly linked with a move to North London with Arsenal over the
    summer.

Good move considering King's fitness problems. He played less games than Saha I think which is very a very hard feat to achieve!

He's a good player , so are Tottenham a threat for top 4 or not until they find a decent LW.

Spurs will not challenge for the title, but they will definitely mount a decent challenge for a place in the top 4, as Newcastle, Portsmouth, Villa and Everton and hopefully us will do.

Kaboul is an excellent player, it's a very good buy

I still don't think they are a top 4 threat. Based on Jol's mentality. How often will any team get to halftime 3-1 up against Chelsea(with Mourinho in charge) at the bridge. Once in a blue moon, Spurs had that and blew it.

They have ability, but after that result I began to have setrious doubst Jol's ability to give these guys mental fortitude and a winning mentality especially against the big boys.

I should have picked up on this earlier. 2 seasons ago we went to WHL, SPurs had us under the kosh for 15 mins, produced 3-4 good scoring opportunities and didn't take them. The 1st counter attack we had, Ronaldo crossed to Rooney, goal. Then 10 mins later Park steals the ball from Lee and gives it to Rooney 0-2. Which Spurs doing all the dominating. Last season at OT the same thing, Spurs dominated that game, we won 1-0.

It's a signing I'm Very, very happy with - but part of me thinks that if Jol's signed Kaboul to give King, Dawson & Rocha a kick up the jacksie, surely he should be doing the same to Robinson - who was by far the weakest link in our defence last term.

I've seen snippets of him, and he looks very promising. This certainly means that Anthony Gardner will be on his way.

    @ robert

Funnily enough, I think we lack the talent - or should I say balance as well as the mentality to launch an assault on the top 4. I totally agree with you about the F.A Cup Chelsea thing - but Jol is showing signs of getting better - after we went 1-0 down to Chelsea at WHL last November he swithced from a 4-4-3 to a 4-5-1 cum 4-3-3 and that worked out brilliantly.

Bale, Bent & Kaboul for an initial £26m Neutral

The 1st and the Latter a great semi-proven prospect - the middle is a good player but one, I still don't think we needed. I do believe we've got cash left in the coffers so who knows - there could be one more big signing left.

*Also interesting to hear Defoe say he's very happy with us, and that he welcomes the Bent signing. But he's only got 2 years left on his deal...

    @ TS

    Good signing.

Do you think you will let go of Chimbonda to balance the books somewhat. Chelsea are interested.

Could Keane play the LW role?

Would save a whole lot of problems.

    Good signing btw. <Ale>

Wouldn't that take them back in team building...as well as selling to a direct London rival...

No way. We won't get a better RB than him - and even though he's a bit of a self-serving mercenary... he's got a huge rapport with the fans at the Lane. Not sure if he'd take that risk.

I'd expect a few departees as our squad is rather bloated at the moment.

I believe that Gardner will go, as will Murphy, Mido, and possibly/maybe Ghaly, Routledge (Sad) & Defoe...

Lee Young-Pyo & Benoit Assou-Ekotto should also be worried.

    @ Parky

Keane won't play LW - takes away about half his game - Malbranque is still here, but he bittely dissapointed me. All the little pices of guile, and the ability to sidestep opponents just wasn't there last season. His work -rate was fine, but that's not what he was here for. The ball seemed to get stuck between his feet most of the time. Hopefully he'll get better.

Oh well, it looks like the parties over for Dawson. Sad Give it 2 years and he'll be playing for Fulham.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Ghaly leave. He can't be too popular at Spurs after his actions against Blackburn at the end of last season. I have heard people say that he wants to leave this summer as well because he doesn't feel he is playing enough.
