I can see that Germans and non-Germans alike on this board are already writing off the chances of Bundesliga teams in the CL

Bremen are outsiders in their Group of Death , everybody is saying

Ridiculous really

Barca are slight favourites in their Group, SLIGHT

Chelsea and Bremen are operating on a similar level. A lot will depend on how the Bremen defence works and whether Diego will be a good replacement for Micoud, one of the best CL midfielders last season

Chelsea have similar questions to answer: can Lampard and Ballack play together ?? Is a defence consisting of Terry and Bridge good enough ?


Last season the CL was clearly a league too far for Chelsea. They struggled in the Group Stages and were horrible against Barca.

Bremen might just be too good for Chelsea THIS YEAR

i am really confident about HSV and Bayern munich to reach the next round, Werder Bremen would make it too in any other group easily

even Diego looks fantastic

questions remain over Bremen's defensive innocence

they still have the egde over a Chelsea whose manager is already losing his nerves after a defeat against Boro

Saying Barça is the slight fav is silly. Have you seen them play ? They raped Bayern 4-0 the other day and played 45mins with 11 non-regular players ... imagine what they will do to Bremen !

it would take a brave man to put any money on bremen to qualify from this group... however if they can beat chelsea at home which is more than possible it will be a very interesting group...

Bremen will trouble Chelsea more than us because they are basically a cloned version of us when it comes to the style of football. We have more quality though and hopefully that should be good enough.

Bremen scored 6 goals in the first two league matches this season,
Diego created 4 assists AND scored one goal himself.

Diego is a great player but hes still young and IMO won't be as good as Micoud in the CL

Well, on the one side they're shocked and unhappy about the draw, because realisticly we don't have a chance to reach the second round, but on the other side they're also very happy to play against such great clubs. Some of them have already booked their flights to London.
In Germany we have a saying "Viel Feind, viel Ehr", which was also mentioned on the Werder forum tonight. I guess it's relatively similiar to the English saying "The more danger, the more honor."

Bremen were better than Juve, even if they lost in the end

there is nothing special about Chelsea in Europe at all

I believe their away record in the CL is borderline farcial. Does anybody have the stats, pelase ???

granted, the loss of Micoud is severe and whether Diego is a proper replacement in Europe remains to be seen despite his astonishing Bundesliga form

Whether Schaaf is CUNNING enough tactically in Europe is not clear

there is no way though that Bremen are bigger favourites . I don't understand why the Germans are so depressed

Loew is an unkown. He was already calling the shots under Klinsi but we don't know to what extent exactly

Listen to his interviews and a mediocre football mind is revealed. Still, there is evidence that the guy has some intelligence. Whereas Germany during the World Cup were still adjusting their game to their opponents far too much, Loew has now said this would change and Germany would just impose their style. Maybe he DOES learn

It's nice you rate Bremen that high, but Chelsea is favourite imo, even though they hardly impressed me against Middlesbrough the other day. But we can still hope for one more "Wunder von der Weser"...
