A little bit of fantasy in this mediocre and boring league.

The little prodigy, 19 years old, scored another goal yesterday against Lens, while starting on the bench. This means he has now scored 9 goals in 9 games. last year he started on the same basis but got injured.
It has been a while there hasn't been a quality striker in France.

What kind of player is he, an all round striker who contributes to attacking moves, or a van Nistelrooy/Trezeguet type finisher?

He is both type, but a little bit more like the second option. He has good pace and good technique. If you have to compare him to a player, this would be Ronaldo. He plays similarly as him.

I think he will be a hell of player in the future. Look at his goal yesterday, he did a back heel to pass two defenders then scores. Brilliant.

Poor Baros, he looked like in so much pain when his body is shaking of pain with his noise covered of blood.

Yeah he certainly has a bright future ahead of him...that goal is fantastic, very reminiscent of Ronaldo at his peak, just like you said. Let's hope he does the job for my CL fantasy team against Rangers on Tuesday Very Happy

To be fair, Benzema does have some talent to go with the pace so not a great comparison.

I think Jeremy Menez will be excellent too.

Benzema is not like Henry at all so to compare them is useless. According to French media Briand (rennes) plays similar as Henry when this latter was young. Menez is good also, but a bit too irregular in my opinion. He had an amazing game two weeks ago.

I was looking on Wikipedia and saw this about Menez:

Born in 1987, is a French football player who currently plays for AS Monaco after signing in June 2006 from FC Sochaux in Ligue 1. He signed to play alongside another new signing, Jan Koller for an exciting Monaco side. A playmaker by trade, he is noted for being the youngest ever scorer of a hat trick in Ligue 1, the youngest ever winner of Ligue 1's player of the month award and has sometimes been compared to Zinédine Zidane and has also been called the French Wayne Rooney. He has been linked with a transfer in the upcoming summer with a host of clubs with Portsmouth and Olympique Lyon the favourites to capture the attacking midfielder.

Laughing Laughing Yes right, all the good players in France are usually compared to Zidane once they copy a few tricks or did a few good things.

I haven't seen him play much, but he's style is not like Rooney at all.

Benzema scored in a 3-1 victory vs. Bordeaux today. That has taken his goal tally to an impressive 10 goals already.

How long will it be until he is being considered for a French National team start?

He's too young and unexperienced to have a starting role for the French team. Henry and Anelka are the two starters. Benzema has all his time ahead of him. He's only 19.

Before, Fred was number 1, now it's going to be Benzema, because he scoring goal after goal. Last year Fred was number one, but he is often injured. I think both players can play together, although they play quite the same. Their style is similar, they are foxes in the penalty area and they can also score from far. Both are relatively young and can be even better, especially Fred who keeps getting injured. Fred is a bit annoying, he said he wanted to leave last summer, just for money reasons. When the president offered him a better contract he immediately signed for some extra years.

I hope Lyon can improve in the champions league, Bodmer is no longer playing CD and is back as his natural place, attacking midfield. Things are looking good in the (poor) league. Regards to our attacking solutions, Baros is more likely to be on the bench now, because he is not doing great. This is not a really a surprise. Lyon will not do well in the C.L because there has been too many changes and some key experienced players (Coupet and Cris) are really missing to the team. Now that Fred is back Benzema can rest a while, I think there will be a rotation between these two players because Benzema has played a lot games so far this year.

he reminds me a lot Ronaldo in his style...Strange player. He doesn't look awesome..i mean he doesn't have a particular quality (pace, dribbler, good header ect) but he seems to be good everywhere in his game.

We are very lucky to have him..at the moment he is unstoppable.i thought he was a good player last seasons but with a lack of goals but this season he has changed! he scores at every games.

Def one of the best propect of the game..clearly better than Rooney if you ask me. <Ale>

    Yo Cesc mate.

I'm surprised all the Arsenal fans rate him highly!

I know him since 3 seasons and always thought he was decent but nothing special.Auxerre had a wonderful highly rated generation with the Boumsong,Mexes,Cisse,Taino and co and Sagna,Kaboul ect were the generation just after.

The Cisse's and co were great in the league and had decent results in Europe but the Sagna's and co were average in the league and never in Europe. That's why i never rated this Auxerre generation...

then he signed for Arsenal and after 10 games he became a french international and he is now highly rated in England!!!
But believe me sooner or later you'll see he is a good player but doesn't have the potential but be considered as WC.

He doesn't score enough, isn't offensive enough and ain't solid enough. He is just a good RB. <Ale>

LB? Did Sagna play on the left last season? People have said that he is a versatile defender. He has done well for us so far, better defensively and more consistent with Eboue and he has got forward quite well, certainly better than I expected.
