Maradona Launches Attack On FIFA Cronies Diego Maradona has stated that will never suck up to FIFA in order to help his cause and follow in the footsteps of Pelé; Michel Platini and Franz Beckenbauer.
The Argentinian star is saddened that the great players of the past have, in his opinion, cosied upto FIFA in order to achieve their ambitions.
Speaking on Colombian television, Maradona revealed that he could have done the same thing to become a more powerful figure, but would never stoop to hugging the organisation's president, Sepp Blatter.
"If I was to embrace Blatter I would be part of the FIFA family, but I would be ashamed," he said.
"Platini is now the head of UEFA because he was Blatter's baby for many years.
"Pelé defends FIFA while Beckenbauer earned Germany the World Cup Finals.
"When a player does not taste stardom for some time they become less important and that are all becoming hungry.
"It is very sad, but I accept that they were great football players."
Maradona understands what he could do if he were to make the right friends, but does not want to join the club just because of who he is.
"They have all benefitted, but it sad. If they do not defend what needs to be defended then they are not so great," he continued.
"FIFA wants to have one more corrupted member of the family, but I am not interested."
