    Bosmans Empty Bosmans

Post by Glenarch of the Glen Sun Nov 25, 2007 11:03 pm

A comment made by Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez recently has got me thinking, so....

Who is available on a Bosman next summer? Which club should target which available players, or, where are the available players likely to end up?

I understand Liverpol are in for Maxi Rodríguez and Pablo Ibáñez, with Kewell and Sami Hyypiä out of contract.

Am I right in thinking Guti, Llorente and Riquelme are up for grabs?

    Who else?

    Bilbao Llorente or Valladolid Llorente?

Maxi - No Chance, Pablo Ibanez - The way he's been playing recently they might let him go.

He's not worth it. Touted as the new Urzaiz, but has been overtaken in the pecking order by Aduriz and Ion Velez.

I don't know a lot about him, other than he's a big fucker. When I saw he was available I thought Benitez may have earmarked him as a Crouch replacement, he was a fairly highly rated youngster, but I suppose this may be more to do with physical presence > ability at a young age.

Athletic always hype their players; two years ago it was Llorente, last year it was Danoibeitia and Javi Martinez and this year it's Susaeta. The only WC player they've produce recently is Yeste.

Have check on FM08 in the first season, if i remember correctly it did show Kewell with is contract finishing in 2008 so it might have some other players correct contract details, in terms of when they finish.

This is the key word...he's proven himself to be nothing really. Guti has a contract until 2010 and Riquelme looks to be joining Boca Juniors in January.

This website usually publishes a list of all players in Europe that are whose contracts are ending but I have found an updated list for 2008.

There used to be a really informative website about players contracts, but I can't remember what it is called.

I know Hernan Crespo's contract expires with Chelsea/Inter in 2008. I wonder where he will end up ...

I never get to use my linguistic knowledge, so please allow me to chip in. bounce

    It's Bosmans.

Bosman is an exocentric compound, i.e. it is NOT a type of man. Similar to redneck, which is not a type of neck but rather describes the person. The plural form of exocentric compunds is always the regular 's'.

The opposite would be endocentric compunds. A 'Policeman' is indeed a "type" of man. Here the plural would be 'policeMEN'. study

    Thank you.

Bosman is a Dutch word, therefore the Dutch know how it works : the plural is Bosmannen or Bosjesmannen.

This is a good website to use:
    http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/vertragsende/IT1/2007/aktuelle_saison/alle/index.html

Select the league (Wettbewerb wechseln) and search (Wechseln)

Some high profile players have their contacts nearing expiry, but no doubts the likes of Pavel Nedved and Mattieu Flamini will get improved deals over the next few months.

Olaf Mellberg and Yoann Pele would be good additions for clubs next summer.
