Apparently Liverpool have first refusal. But with the owners and Rafa relationship, it could still be in the balance.
His style of play would suit Seria A very well.

Re: Is Mascherano on sale?
Exactly. I am confident that he will be a top top player in Serie A. And the last thing I would want is to see him land up at Juventus.
I plan to start this campaign/petition at Interlist for the signing of Mascherano. There have been so many times that such campaigns have resulted in bids or buys, that we are convinced that the powers that be at the club read what we write
From Ronaldo (the first one), Crespo, Veron, etc to Samuel and Chivu in recent times have been cases where such campaigns/petitions at the Interlist have resulted in successful acquisitions by the club. There have been far too many over the years for it to be a coincidence!
Just want to make sure there is a possibility before putting in all that effort.

If they want a World cup winner then Kleberson's probably a cheaper bet.

Mascherano 'will stay' at Anfield
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is confident Javier Mascherano will sign a permanent deal to stay with the club.
The on-loan midfielder has been linked with a £17m move to Manchester City but Benitez is upbeat that the Argentine will remain at Anfield.
"He said to me that he wants to stay here, so I have confidence," he said.
Liverpool would have to negotiate with Media Sports Investments, the consortium which "owns" Mascherano, to agree a permanent contract.
Benitez's attempts to buy the player were recently blocked by Liverpool's American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks.
But the Liverpool manager remains optimistic of securing a longer-term agreement, beyond the 18-month loan period which expires this summer.
"Clearly, I hope Mascherano stays here," he said. "I am confident he can be persuaded to stay.
"He is playing well and everyone knows he is a good player and there are not too many world-class holding midfielders around.
"He wants to stay, our supporters like him and we will try to keep him."
Mascherano and his advisers are believed to want to tie up a deal as quickly as possible.
Liverpool risk the midfielder signing a pre-contract agreement elsewhere if they do not offer him permanent terms by next month.
In October, Mascherano said he hoped he can do enough to turn his loan deal with Liverpool into a permanent move at the end of the season.
"I'd love to stay and I will do everything I can to do so. It depends on what everyone decides at the end of the season," he said.
"I have just got to make sure everyone is happy with my performances and they want me to stay. I want to be here to play in the new stadium.
"We are already one of the greatest clubs in the world, but with the plans for the future we could become the world's greatest team."
Mascherano, rested for last weekend's 4-0 win over Bolton, is now set to play a key part in a critical week that could define Liverpool's season.
After Saturday's Barclays Premier League trip to Reading, Liverpool face a make-or-break Champions League tie in Marseille on Tuesday, where only a win will keep them in the competition.
The following Sunday, Manchester United visit Anfield, while a trip to Chelsea in the Carling Cup quarter-finals comes three days later.

No , first doubt he's cheaper as figures earlier were around 18.6 m , Hargreaves cost 17 m ,younger okay , better DM okay but Hargreaves isnt really a what you call typical DM he is a runner I doubt any team would win the league with a sitting DM as you need to attack to win the game or unless everybody else aparts from the DM and perhaps a DLP alongside him is on attacking duties.Glenn Hysén wrote:Dark Savante wrote:Did you really needed him ? seriously.

Mascherano deal was £17 million anyway as far as I'm aware. He'll be getting considerably less in wages than Hargreaves. Plus he'll be fit for more than 15 games a season

Re: Is Mascherano on sale?
Dont think a static DM suits EPL style of play , you may argue Chelsea but they were Chelsea , Gilberto is probably still a decent static DM sitting there but he is required to do more then that probably that is the reason he has found himself out , Man Utd were failing in Keane's last yrs as he didnt have the legs and forced to do the sitting DM role.

Regardless, whatever he's on he's better value for money pound for pound than Hargreaves since he plays twice as many games he should be paid double whatever OH earns

You seem to miss the point that a dm for a top club shouldn't be playing many games. Away to Arsenal i would play Hargreaves in 90% of matches he would be 5th choice cm.

In some regards this is true
Because we have f@ck all creativity from the wings having mascherano over alonso is detrimental to our football, but if quality came from the areas it is supposed to mascherano would work perfectly well all year in the league
Great signing obviously but it needs to be backed up with similar spending on the wings

so what? We shouldn't sign him? £17 million is too much?
We pay £17 million for a world class first choice midfielder, you pay £17 million for a lesser, 5th choice injury prone midfielder and somehow we're the ones doing something wrong?
Just who exactly is missing the point?
