Kaka wins popularity contest Tuesday 18 March, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kaka has been voted the most popular player in Italy in a survey conducted by publisher Panini. Over the course of two months, over 50,000 people were asked to select their favourite 11 and Kaka received more votes than Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gigi Buffon, Alessandro Del Piero and Francesco Totti.
The side consists of three Juventini, three Milan stars, three Inter men and one player from Roma and Genoa. Genoa’s former Azzurrini midfield talent Marco Rossi is the most surprising selection.
The Panini “Top Team”:
Goalkeeper: Gigi Buffon (Juventus)
Defenders: Marco Materazzi (Inter), Paolo Maldini (Milan), Javier Zanetti (Inter)
Midfielders: Kaka (Milan), Marco Rossi (Genoa), Gennaro Gattuso (Milan), Pavel Nedved (Juventus)
Strikers: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Inter), Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus), Francesco Totti (Roma)

Most popular players in Italy
Marco Rossi? I had no idea he was so popular!!! No other surprises for me, tho I would have thought that De Rossi, Pirlo and Nesta are also popular among Italians.

Cause he is so controversial. To be honest though, I don't mind Marco at all, he is such a character

Yeah, Kaka fits the bill. I don’t think there’s any fan that has anything bad to say about him or even dislike him.

me , he's overrated
All this virgin until his wedding day and belonging to god stuff pisses me off as well. If he wants to do it fair enough, but why does he have to tell everyone about it. It's as if he's saying, look how great I am, I've made this great sacrifice, so acknowledge me.

He’s a good role model for the children though. You know: say your prayers, eat your vitamins and respect women.

He is part of a group that tries to give out the message of god to others. i think Edmilson is part of this group too. i think he got religous because he was supposed to be handicapped but somehow he he recovered.110% wrote:the Bojan identity wrote:BoBo Vieri 32 wrote:the Bojan identity wrote:What is the definition of ‘popular’?

so you tell your child to study hard, but he does the index fingers in the air celebration ala kaka, and says it's all up to god and he's going to become a footballer
after dropping out of school without any qualifications he becomes a bum

You could have Ronaldinho & Adriano as your role models and be finished at 28.

It’s not what Kaka does, it is what Kaka stands for. Don’t follow his football actions that’s a mirage, behind is the principles which children today should follow instead of listening to hippety-hop and become low life bums with no future and no career prospect and end up on the streets like cheap junkies, don’t know when there next meal is coming from and have a early walk to their grave. Follow Kaka or else.

according to wikipedia:
He suffered a career-threatening and possibly paralysis-inducing spine fracture at the age of 18 as a result of a swimming pool accident, but remarkably made a full recovery. He attributes his recovery to God and since tithed his income to his church.[1]
but if there is a god, he made him have the accident in the first place
if anything god made him have the accident and the doctors saved him, and he doesn't thank doctors, he doesn't give part of his income to paralysis research. I think I hate him even more now
anyway I hate preachy people, if you want to do it fair enough, go knock yourself out, why do you have to go aorund telling everyone about it

Re: Most popular players in Italy
I don't really care what his religious beliefs are, and don't care whether he preaches them. Thats his call.
What I will say about Kaka is that he is a good role model, a true professional. Always tries to say the right thing, does not let his personal life impact his game, and always strives to perform. For that, he has my respect.
But as far as role models go, for me Zanetti remains as the best example in football... professionally and otherwise. Always gives his best, the most consistent player I have ever seen in over 20 years of watching football, never gives up, one of the hardest workers in football even at this age, his loyalty and commitment to his club are beyond doubt, and also does so much charity work in his personal life. If you are looking for a role model in football, it cannot get any better than Il Capitano!

From what i read it wasnt doctors that saved him. that is why it was so incredible because they were telling him he might never walk again. anyway i dont like to be preached at but when he has the right to celebrate the way he does. also you if you see it from his side then he think he has been saved by God and so he want to spread the message to others can get the same enlightment.110% wrote:Supermadrid wrote:He is part of a group that tries to give out the message of god to others. i think Edmilson is part of this group too. i think he got religous because he was supposed to be handicapped but somehow he he recovered.110% wrote:the Bojan identity wrote:BoBo Vieri 32 wrote:the Bojan identity wrote:What is the definition of ‘popular’?

It's not so much his belief in god, it is his connection to a specific church. He has some part of his salary going to this "church", donated his wpoty trophy to them etc. Kind of publising it, getting others to join, donate their money and so on, in the hope of "being saved".
I'd rather get the same enlightenment as him by getting saved from god and being given amazing footballing ability rather than have him preaching to me.
Being an evangelical christian means he is against gays, abortion etc. And probably numerous other dodgy beliefs that religious nutters are given. Not the best role model for me, I'd rather someone more liberal.
