Gilberto: United not better than Arsenal

By Jonathan Chong on Monday, May 19, 2008

Midfielder Gilberto Silva is adamant that champions Manchester United are not better than Arsenal, who finished four points behind them in the league.

The Gunners had led the league for most of the season and fell away at the end, allowing United and Chelsea to slip through and contest the league title on the final day of the season.

But the Brazilian World Cup winner is adamant that his side deserved to be league champions.

He said: "Overall you cannot say that Manchester United were the best team. What made the difference were the last results and they finished in a better position.

"We know our quality and what we are capable of. We are stronger than them and next year we need to do much better than what we did this season.

"We will enjoy our holidays and think about what we have done and come back next year even stronger.

"We were very close in the league but things happened to us which were very difficult and that is why we lost first position in the league."

Not the first time a losing Arsenal side has claimed to be better than their opponents. At least last time Arsenal did finish second. This time they finished third, which means Gilberto's missed an entire team out of the equation.

Only Arsenal players say this sort of thing. Only that soulless, cultureless, amoral, atomised, relentless hype machine could claim to be better than a team who beat you in the cup, beat you in the league and could be going all the way in Europe (something Arsenal have never, ever, not once, ever, never done).

Fabregas asked recently 'why does everyone hate us?' I said at the time it was because of comments like this. I'll admit, I didn't see this coming, particularly from a player who has been utterly Cr@p this season.

Ask any Arsenal fan who has been their weakest player this season. Most of them rank the turncoat c**t Diarra over Gilberto.

Gilberto only played sporadically. When he got a run in the side following Flamini's injury he played well.

A paper thin attempt to divert the thread. As per usual from you when I start a thread.

Hate to say it Glenn, but menopause is making you predictable.
