    Anelka unhappy Empty Anelka unhappy

    Post by Sgoater1 Fri May 23, 2008 12:53 pm

Nicolas Anelka has voiced his frustration at being asked to play out of position for Chelsea, while he has also admitted that he refused to take one of the first five penalties in the UEFA Champions League final.

Anelka has not been a regular starter since moving to Stamford Bridge from Bolton in the January transfer window and he has often had to play on the wing rather than in his preferred front role.

The Frenchman claims that he was led to believe he would start alongside Didier Drogba in most games, but Avram Grant has been reluctant to change his formation.

He is unhappy with his role and has demanded to be used as a striker when the new season gets underway.

"Since I have joined the club, I never played in my right position, as second centre-forward," Anelka told L'Equipe.

"I have always played on the left or the right. I have never said anything so far. I was a new man in the team, coming from Bolton. But next season it will be different, I won't be a new man anymore, I will be a Chelsea player.

"When I came here, I was told I will play in a 4-4-2 system. I didn't come to play on the right or left.

"I don't have to prove my value in the centre. We could have played together with Didier Drogba.

"But we never even worked on our partnership during training sessions."

Anelka came on in extra-time in the Champions League final before his sudden death penalty was saved by Edwin van der Sar to give victory to Manchester United.

He admits it was difficult to play a part in the shoot-out after coming on so late, adding: "I never thought I would come onto the pitch.

"I stayed sitting on the bench for 110 minutes, and then I have been asked to play after just one minute of warm-up.

"I don't know if it has ever happened in a Champions League final, with such an intensity, to play without a warm-up.

"I was asked to be among the five penalty kickers. I said 'out of the question. I came in almost as right full-back and you want me to kick a penalty?' Finally I had to go as number seven."

Surely he could have realised this 5 months ago when he signed?

Grant loves 4-3-3 and he wasnt going to replace Drogba...

Depends what happens in the summer, but he could possibly be first choice by the end.

I forgot about what a moaner he is....I should start a poll: Who moans more - Anelka or Henry?

    Henry definetly.

wouldn't be suprised if some shitty, juiced -up translating, as it normally is with L'Equipe.

    Wouldn't be the 1st time.

I don't know, Anelka moans a lot too. When he was with us he was always crying about how nobody passed him the ball the way he liked, Fernando Hierro is mean to me, blah blah blah...

Diddums. He shouldn't have jumped ship then should he. We all knew what system Chelsea use and we all knew Drogba was top dog.

Anelka is pathetic. This sounds like sulking whilst attempting at the same time to pass along any blame for missing the final penalty on Wednesday.

If he refused to take one of the first five penalties, and said what he claims to have said, then Chelsea should have kept him until last - they shouldn't have pushed him forward on the seventh penalty, and they should have excluded him from the rest of the team in any post match medal collections or whatever. Anelka clearly didn't care in the least about missing a penalty. And this is also why penalties are a funny way to determine games - they really change the whole complex of the game of football, where teams who play as teams really excel, where build up is vital, where even the most talented individual players have to learn, and improve by learning to play with the team. It's a shame that Anelka, who has barely played for Chelsea this season, who couldn't care any less for the team, proved decisive in such a significant match.

In this months FourFourTwo Magazine in a Q&A session, he did have quite a dig at the Spanish clique - in fact he claims that on his 1st training session Geremi & a couple of others told him to "watch out for them, they don't want you here."

And when it comes to Chelsea, and potentially having to share the limelight with Didier Drogba, and - shock, horror - possibly having to sit on the bench once in a while, Anelka is totally accepting. Nic said:

“If I have to start on the bench, I’ll do the same. I knew this before I signed. I’m just happy to be here.

“It’s not very difficult to play with him [Drogba], he can do everything and he’s clever and can play with his back to the goal. I like this kind of striker. I can turn around him and give him some good balls to score.”

Just read a danish interview with him where he says that Reals players didnt celebrate when he scored his first goals and he showed a tape to Del Bosque but he brushed it away. also that Hierro was a big bully along with Redondo. and that Raul was a good boy who didnt want trouble.
