this league is the best in the world in my arse, in such a doggy league even rooney cant score, says really all lol!

    http://goal.com/en/articolo.aspx?contenutoid=723987

Spanish super-striker Fernando Torres has risked becoming public enemy number one amongst opponents next season by publicly ridiculing the ability of Premiership keepers and defenders. He also raised eyebrows by suggesting that Chelsea stars Petr Cech and Ricardo Carvalho are two of the only people in England's top division who really know how to keep the ball out of the net.

“But the truth is most of them lack defensive positioning as a result of their reliance on strength and aggression and

Finally, the ex Atletico Madrid prodigy admitted that there is one Premiership defender that he doesn't fancy coming across.

He said: “Terry is captain so gets a much higher profile. But he’s only secondary to Carvalho. Ricky is superb. He has every quality that is needed.”

I've read it. CotR said he - 'He always has something thoughtful to say rather than the usual rubbish you hear from footballers'. So I was wondering what else he has said that is so thoughtful?

Cech and VdS are the hardest to play against because other keepers tend to go to ground too early so they are easy to go around in 1-on-1s - so he tends to hit the ball early against Man U and Chelsea

Most premiership defenders rely on strength and aggression but their lack of positional sense means that he has more space than he is used to

The goalkeeping coach works with him before every game, telling him how each opposition keeper likes to play

He gets less chances at Liverpool, but they are better quality chances than he got at Atletico

He talks up Kuyt's contribution, citing the amount of work he puts in and how he creates space for Torres by pulling defenders away.

What, you mean like in the champions league where he has been nominated by UEFA in the past as one of the top defenders in the tournament?

Anyone would think that with your gloating attitude you are trying to convince us that the EPL is a laughing stock and the Bundesliga, and its best team getting thrashed 4-0 in the UEFA cup semi finals, isnt Laughing

I don't know if Prem defenders are necessarily not as good, because clearly the league has some of the best defenders in Europe. I think Torres' hit and run style is more suited to the league though; maybe a bit like Henry.

David Villa has been the better player in Spain for the national side, though he has a different style of play, and could join the EPL and MAY struggle, or may not make as much of an impact as Torres

No where in the article does he say that.. Its typical spin. Saying they lack positioning isnt ridiculing them, its the truth, he goes past some of them way too easily.

The media spin is second only to the stupidity of some of the posters on here, e.g. the following seems to be a quote:

“The central defenders are usually big, strong, aggressive lads. I guess it is probably because of these characteristics that the majority think they can solve problems by getting tough with me.

“But the truth is most of them lack defensive positioning as a result of their reliance on strength and aggression and leave so much space for you to take advantage of.”

Did people while reading this suddenly think it applies to all, not most of them as he directly says? I sometimes wonder about the thought processes of people reading this stuff.

How many carvalho types are there: carvahlo, rio, gallas, toure maybe

and the other big aggressive types: terry, ben haim, vidic, brown, yobo, taylor, faye, neill, melberg, knight, riggot, wheater, samba, nelsen, hreidersen, konchesky, hughes, and of course carragher, hyppia although he wouldn't face them in a match

maybe I am being unfair on a few of the above guys and they are decent footballers but they are the types to rely on aggression and strength

and this is looking at only the top few teams, imagine I didn;t even check derby, birmingham, reading, sunderland etc affraid

Defending in spain is not what its made out to be.first of all defenders have to be able to take care of stuff on their own often which is harder then when you have back up.
