At least Feyenoord didn't lose this weekend. Biggrin

At least the home side finally won in the Feyenoord stadium cheers Though it was a shame to see it filled with all those orange nutters. They dont even like football.

The Barnes effect has obviously kicked in already. However, as soon as he turns up in Jamaica it will all go horribly wrong.

In case you haven't heard Luis Oliveira Goncalves is no longer coach of Angola - Maby de Almeida has taken over - and the biggest shock in African groups so far is that Angola not only went out but came third in their group. Benin won it and Uganda beat Angola on head to head.

It is a big disappointment for the hosts of the next ACN. They were quarter-finalists in Ghana and went to last World Cup at Nigeria's expense.

Edit: Apparently goal difference rather than head to head is the deciding factor, so Angola is second in that group.

The first round of qualification in Africa is over. Eight second place teams were due to qualify as well, but it got complicated due to the suspension of Ethiopia and withdrawal of Eritrea. FIFA decided that the fairest way to resolve it was to discount the results of the second and fouurth placed teams when considering the second place results.

The twelve group winners are as follows: Cameroon, Guinea, Benin, Nigeria, Ghana, Algeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Morocco, Burkina Faso, Mali, Zambia and Egypt - all of whom qualify outright for the next stage.

After the FIFA ruling is taken into account, Kenya, Gabon, Gambia, Rwanda, Tunisia, Sudan, Togo and Malawi qualify.

Mozambique missed out on the second tied breaker to Gambia by having one less point in total than Gambia.

The second place teams to miss out are the Cape Verde Islands, Angola, South Africa and Mozambique.

That is unless I have miscalculated somewhere.

It' both. Angola also took part in qualifiers despite qualifying as host of the next ACN. Both they and SA finished second in their groups but went out, so the hosts of both the World Cup and ACN will not have any competitive matches before each tournament and neither will qualify for the other tournament

I still can't work this out but Mozambique rather than Gambia qualified. I guess that they meant total points after the deductions and then went to goal difference. Ridiculous system.

    Rankings of runners-up
Along with the 12 group winners, the 8 best runners-up also advanced to the third round. In determining the rankings of the runners-up, results against the fourth-placed team (for groups with 4 teams) would be excluded (and are hence excluded from the table below).

    1. Total points
    2. Goal difference
    3. Goals scored
    4. Away goals scored
    5. A play-off decider at a neutral ground (if necessary)
