    Hasselbaink Retires

    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_4149663,00.html

Always liked Jimmy Floyd as a player Ale

Couldn't half strike a ball aswell, scored some cracking goals in his time.

Has to be said, by god was he one moody moaner but you can't argue how good he was.

I remember he scored against us at Anfield, for about 20 seconds before I was shouting dont let him shoot, dont let him shoot.

They did and he scored the get.. Razz

Some clips, not many but here were some of the best quality ones..

The story behind his career is fit for a movie ok

For example Hasselbaink is one of only five players to have played in Oranje, yet never to have played a match in de Eredivisie.

The fact that he still got more than 20 caps for Holland whilst competing with Bergkamp, Van Nistelrooij, Makaay, Van Hooijdonk, Kluivert and a few others is testament to his quality (9 goals in 23 caps) Shocked

If Babel is the Original Hipshot Gangsta, then Jerrel must be Old Dirty Hipshot Wink

    Here's to the legend Ale

It says Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, but you might know him as Jerrel Hasselbaink : that's his real name and that's how the Dutchies know him Wink

Jerrel played in the Dutch championship from 1990 till 1993 : he couldn't get a professional contract after that ! Shocked

....until Portuguese side Campomaiorense picked him up from the amateurs in Holland to play for them in the 1995/1996 season in the highest Portuguese league (no idea how they found him btw).

The chairman of Campomaiorense was afraid the press would have a field day if they found out he'd brought in a Dutch striker, who couldn't even get a professional contract in Holland.....that would put too much pressure on both player and club.

So what did that bijgoogem do : he told Jerrel Hasselbaink that while in Portugal he was going to play under the name Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink....
That way, when a reporter would try to find the history of the player in Holland, it would come up completely blank Smile

.....I just love this story Ale

Remember watching him down at the Valley a couple of times. Always a funny player to watch, just because he moans like a woman.

Must of had the hardest shot in World football as well.

He played here under the name Jimmy most of the time and was very good. I am surprised no big sign him but then he left Portugal.

I remember that when talking about him in england with the different name comentators saying:"...you may remember Jimmy as he played here with Campomaiorense but the english know him with a different name..." Laughing

I didn´t know the whole story though.

Jimmy never played for the big boys in Portugal, because he said that he did not want to be 2nd choice striker
