Man. Utd. vs Porto - CL quarterfinal discussion thread

To go with the stat about British teams never having won in Europe, here's another one...seems like Man. Utd. suffer as much as Barça in terms of CL ties where the 2nd leg is away from home.

United went out on away goals in the second leg of that Leverkusen match and, strangely, it is a decade since they won a European knockout tie in which the first leg was at home; even then they had to win in Juventus to go through. Since then they have played 14 knockout ties; in only four of those did they play at home in the first leg, and they went out each time.

Well considering we were the weaker team as you put it and Rooney managed to score one and excellently set up the other, I dunno know, maybe he's actually done something special?

Most of his play with the ball was very good too, see the chances he set up for Ronaldo on occassions plus his attempted chip, which had Helton back peddling.

For most people that would be a very good game.

Rooney was United's best player and ignoring his goal output hes probably United's most consistent player this season alongside Vidic.

Rooney was excellent, and he's been the one bright spot throughh the bad run Man Utd are having.

It's not just Greasy Boy who's gone off the boil either - WTF has happened to Evra lately?

Has he not recovered from the raping he got in the CC Final?

Evra was the our less worst defender last nite. At least his hardwork rate showed that.

Though he was nearly back to his normal form last night.

Carrick, Tevez & Rio and a few others have been going through the motions of late as well.

Not forgetting that Rooney was playing as a lone striker last night, when his preferred (and best position) is playing deeper as a second striker.

Managing to score and create one, and generally hold up the play and link up in everything good that United did last night- he was t'riffic

Just because Porto have scored twice at OT don't mean that they'll go through. Don't underestimate United determination. SAF won't just stand up and does nothing.

If you're talking about the FA or Carling Cup, yes. In a European competition, games between teams from the same country can occasionally be exciting, but doesn't have the same edge to it because both opponents are so familiar with each other.

The reason why Porto looked very good is our poor defense. In our normal day with Brown-Rio-Vida-Evra, you'll see how mediocre Porto are.

We see it twice a year already in the EPL, which makes it less interesting. It's always more interesting with 2 sides from different countries who don't know eachother so well. The only EPL clash in europe i'd want to see is Man Utd - Liverpool just for the banter on this board.

Are you really that naive to think that they will broadcast what game they think will be better entertainment, and not the game which features teams with the largest potential TV audience?

And since when did Indonesian TV producers become a valid judge of good football

EPL is more popular to the majority of the fans in that part of the world.
