    Yo Puro! Empty Yo Puro!

Post by Isco Benny Thu Jul 16, 2009 1:42 pm

Just got back from 2 weeks in California,

and decided to take in an MLS game - Galaxy Vs Houston Dynamo, based on your declaration in the Beckham/Donovan thread that the lower EPL clubs are comparable to the teams in the MLS.

So I parted with my 60 dollars to take in this top of the table clash.

How I ended up laughing heartily to myself: I've watched some crappy games of football in my life, but TOP OF THE MLS Houston versus GALAXY took the biscuit lol!

What a truly tepid game of football - never have I seen a game so totally lacking in quality and skill. I desperately wanted to enjoy this game (after the amount of money I spent), but ended up more interested in the small pocket of Galaxy "ultras" (Known as the LA Riot Squad) who stopped singing after 15 minutes of the game and seemed more interested in the hot dog vendor.

So you think Galaxy play BETTER without Beckham? I don't think a team could have played any worse.

Awful awful stuff. The best thing about the game was the weather, and the amount of free stuff the promoters throw at you. Half time entertainment was pretty good too, those Californian cheerleaders are easy on the eye.

So anyway Puro, you big fucko: thanks to you I spent 60 dollars of my hard earned cash watching a complete DUD of a game. You or your NY-Miami connection OWE me, but I'll call it quits as you've managed to make me laugh many many times with your shite "insightful" declarations.

    this one being the funniest:

    http://europeanboard.ephpbb.com/english-football-f3/tottenham-hotspur-2009-off-season-t18823-260.htm

"WOW! such a rich club being led to the ground by Harry Redknapp. Big mistake firing Juande Ramos. Spurs should've just get rid of the trash Woodgate, Bentley, Modric etc instead of firing one of the best coaches around. In Perú a while back, a very good coach was having a hell of a time with Sporting Cristal. He told the management to rescind the contract of FIVE players immediately or it was himself leaving.

The board let the players go, and Sporting Cristal became champs. "Puro! who was the coach" I hear you...his name Paulo Autuori. He also won Copa Libertadores with Sao Paulo, and also beating Liverpool for the World Club Cup.

Huge mistake firing Juande Ramos. Dirty Harry was, is, and will always be just a fucking fireman, a midtable (at best) coach. When the rah rah stuff is done, Harry's gone too. Biggrin <Ale>

Be careful with Spurs. A team in big trouble now. The Carling Cup was their last chance for any sign of progress, something to look forward to for next season, something to build on as in UEFA Cup. However, that's gone now. All of a sudden the future looks very bleak for them Spurs. I wouldn't want to be a Spurs player. It's the pits for them now. Shocked"

Yeah, MASSIVE mistake by us firing Ramos - we only ended up gaining the fifth highest number of points in the whole league (behind the top 4) under Harry Redknapp lol!

    Modric - what trash.

And yes, we ended up in so much trouble. Our future is really bleak lol!

Puro - what a guy. What legend. What a fuckwit Ale

All those years he had a free pass at the MLS because nobody here has a clue or gives a fuck about it and then once someone finally gets a clue this is the only response Puro can conjure up

I mean, I still support my local team(DC United), and I watch the MLS All Star Game because its funny to see in form MLS players beat out of form Premier League/SPL teams, but really, most MLS teams are about as good as mid-table Championship teams.

Oh, but I'd bet that a top MLS team(DC United, Columbus Crew, Houston Dynamo) would've beaten Derby County two years ago.

Awesome. I liked him when he played for us cheers

I remember, we brought him back on loan for a few months when we were in division 1 in the 97/98 season. He scored just the once I think..and he cried Very Happy

    1996

And Taylor Twellman will probably break that this year or next year, he's got 101 in 7 seasons so far, and he's only 29.

The standard of football is poor, but I won't deny it - I enjoyed the good weather, the food, the free stuff and the laid back American atmosphere. It was less a football match and more a lazy day out.

By the way - Ade Akinbiyi plays for Houston Dynamo. He was on the bench. I shouted some banterous abuse at him. No one in the stands had a clue what I was on about or who Akinbiyi was.

I have some photos of the ground and game I'll post on here when I get back home

What would be an example of a non-ridiculous name?

We have teams with ripoffs of European names(DC United, Real Salt Lake) and teams with typical American style city-mascot names(LA Galaxy, Chicago Fire, San Jose Earthquakes) and some teams with rather nondescript boring names(FC Dallas, Toronto FC)

Why brand newly created football clubs at all?

I think it speaks volumes for how Americans consume sporting culture that in order to get their attention they have to be marketed in the same way as a popstar or a carbonated drink.

Because football clubs that were created 100 or 50 or probably even 30 years ago no longer exist? The MLS was created in 1996, there were no existing teams to roll into it, new ones had to be made, there isn't promotion/relegation either, so in order for a new city to get a team in the MLS a new club has to be made.
