Van der Sar knew, it is very dangerous to criticise Ferguson but after month and month keeping his mouth shut about Man U's TERRIBLE defence he said after the game against Celtic. “Our defence was not concentrated enough and we made many awful mistakes...” "We were extremely happy we won but against better opposition we would lose for 100% with such a terrible defensive performance.."!

Will Ferguson be consequent and to send Van der Sar, the only stability in the poor Man U defence, away now...?????? So the long-term Man U crisis can continue???

Crisis? Never finished outside of the top 3 in the Premiership (no other club can claim that). Best two young players in the league. Two of the best playmakers in the league. Probably the best veterans in the league (Giggs, Scholes, VDS, *cough*Neville). Won 5 on the trot despite shaky defending. Scoring more freely than any other team in the country.

Do you honeslty think that there's a word of truth in this? Or are you just a WUM-cretin?

Stam. Van Nistelrooy's time had come - he was slow, demotivated, causing trouble. Stam on the other hand, dodgy autobiography or not, was one of the best defenders around for at least 4 seasons after he left. Had you not got rid of him you wouldn't have gotten Rio, but I think on balance that Stam may have done you more good.

Agree on Stam.

Stam is the only high profile we have got rid of I think was a mistake.

Ruud's time was right and Ince, Kanchelskis, Beckham etc was a good decision as well.

I suppose it was a personality clash, stemed from the book he made.

No, Man U are not the richest club in the world. They are the most valuable club in the world, but not the richest. In terms of revenue it's Madrid, in terms of capital it's Chelsea.

Man U's results in Europe since 99 haven't been dreadful - a semi-final appearance in 2002 being a case of 'almost but not quite' given they probably should have won the tie given the balance of play. 2004 they went out to Porto, who won the thing. 2005 they went out to Milan, who were the best team in the comp (inc. the final) and should have won the thing. Last season they went out to a group containing the side who put out Liverpool one round later, a team who got to the semi-finals and a team who the referee refused to card even when one of them broke Giggs' cheekbone with his elbow. And they'd lost a lot of their most experienced players to injury.

Given the inherently unpredictable nature of the CL I'd say that Man U will probably be disappointed with their performances in Europe since 2002, not since 99.
