I'd imagine that was a shock for Mourinho. Did he even leave the bench to coach? His expression in his face looked as if he was totally out of sorts by the fifth minute in the first half.

So, to summarise Mourinho's night:

1. Initially played some kind of bizarre 5-3-2 formation to try and contain Barça. Fail.

2. Swapped Ronaldo and Di Maria's flanks so that Di Maria could help Marcelo against Dani Alves...a reactive tactic, rather than being proactive and using Ronaldo to push Alves back. Fail.

3. At halftime, brought on Lass for Ozil and pushed his defensive line suicidally higher up, a tactic they executed with the same naivety as Arsenal in the CL last year. Fail.

4. Sent on Arbeloa to hack down Messi. Pathetic and disgraceful. Fail.

In summary, EPIC FAIL

I don't doubt that this Madrid side will eventually win titles with Mourinho. There's too much quality in the team for it not to happen...eventually Barça will falter. And of course, he still needs more time with the team to get them playing together. But for now, they are very very very far away.

Interesting to read the reactions in the press. AS and Marca of course are moaning about how Ronaldo should have got a penalty ( ), how Guardiola initiated the handbags by not giving Ronaldo the ball, how Villa's 1st goal was offside, and how Barça were making gestures of the 5-0.

Internationally, Ole are all about what Messi did, as you might expect. Italian papers are excited about Mourinho getting humiliated...guess there's no love lost there
