Re: post "Golden Generation" England
Presumably the point of this post is twofold:
a) To instigate some good old, oft repeated/never dull England bashing
b) To allow Otto to flex his predictive abilities. Which - if RIGHT and in 10 years time England fall out of the top 20 nations in the World and this board still exists, we will be well reminded and invited to join the celebration of such a mystic talent.
OR, if WRONG, will be consigned to the annals of history along with such predictions as Manchester United being schooled in their back yard by Roma, on the eve of the 7-1 trouncing.
So go on then - my prediction is that, sick of losing to Germany on penaties / dodgy linesman calls, England joins with Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg to form Great Britbenelux, and conquer all new comers with the De Jong / Fletcher midfield partnership feeding Bale and Hazard on the wings supplying the balls to Van Persie and Crouch to leave allcomers quaking in their leather sandals.

Re: post "Golden Generation" England
bernd, old pear
this really was merely a "boring" but hearfelt , "where will England be over the next 10 years" ?
the Beckhams, Lampards, Terrys, Rios and Co are NOT getting any younger and me wonders whether the next generation will reach the dizzy heights attained by your golden boys
the truth, my good bernd, is that I have not followed English football for some time and names like Carrol and Huddlestone , whilst being music in my ears, do not really ring any bells
hence the question of what we are to expect ?!
since I do not even know what Walcott and Co LOOK like, I cannot work my predictive muscles either
you are on your own on this one, old boy
rest assured though: even if England reach the FINAL of Euro 2012, you will go farther than Germany under Löw

Re: post "Golden Generation" England
Bernd, you are a good chap but your respect for Germany is too much. They are not better then you ffs!
What happened to the good old Dunkirk spirit?
You think England got that huge empire by having respect for other countries? No! You English like to talk yourself down these days. Its that defeatism mentality that causes all these bad results.
Yet a player like Caroll, nurtured on the lush English pastures, will ALWAYS be better then a 3th generation Turk or a Polish PoW.

very depressing reading on England's future by Honigstein

Trevor Brooking is therefore not optimistic for Brazil 2014 either

I had a bet with myself that you'd post this article Otto. I started reading it at work, but my attention kept being caught by the tremendous moustache of the gentleman standing behind Gibbs. I'll have a more careful read of it in the morning.

Not for nothing, but I don't see how you Dutchies can rate England that high. You sure you don't do the FIFA ranking and that ELO ranking bullshit?
The mind boggles seeing how Holland has so much respect for England football FFS! They're a decent team, but no world beaters. TRUE FUCKING STORY Dutchies!
In fact, seeing how you rate England, makes us South Americans wonder about "your" true power strength as well. Here's hoping that "respect" towards Holland in World Cups is GONE, GONE, GONE, and our teams go out to DESTROY you.

Re: post "Golden Generation" England
Seriously British football requires a change in many area's from top to bottom to have a GB or UK team. In the past it has been a waste of great talent being able to play in the same team it would strengthen the national side while placing a single goal on training for up coming young talent. England lost it's back bone because individually the fans still live in the past and the world moved on and should support one national side. Our football is lost we look to foriegn ideas in Coaching and Management, our players need to form there own instinctive playing patterns again and having something larger on greater than singular motivations they have today. There is little or no chance of that strong combined effect the home countries forged during the 2 world wars required again, there is a lesson learned back in our history we could apply to one national side that is needed to have a winning chance up against the better sides of the world.

It's their media Puro, I have BBC 1,2,3,4 and SKY, and all they do is saying how awesome England and the EPL is ALL DAY. It's getting stuck in my head, and the Dutch media take that over as well. So that's the real reason why England gets rated here.
Don't worry about SA teams not getting rated here though, and imo rating England has not much to do with the fact Holland didnt lose a game within 90 minutes over 3 years now!

That's largely in part because you play a bunch of nobodies. The four times you play against decent opposition, you were second best (against Paraguay in a friendly in Holland), lucky to win (against Japan in the WC), massively helped by the ref (against Brasil in the WC), and again gifted goals by the ref (against Uruguay in the WC).
You NEVER looked the better team in them matches.
Against Brasil, them Brasileiros lost their marbles in the second half when the ref began to call EVERYTHING for you. EVERY 50/50 call was Dutchie, even non-fouls were given to you so that you could have a dead ball situation. Brasil who ALWAYS get the calls in South America, went crazy, they couldn't react to their new environment of not getting them calls.
Against Uruguay, the same bullshite with that offside goal, and the foul by the c**t in midfield that led to a goal. It was fucking hysterical how van Bommel (had easily three reds with neutral refs) was allowed to hack and kick everything in sight...unpunished. A ref gave him one yellow because he opened his mouth after finally the ref calling a foul on him.
Good Dutchies will be the first to point out that Holland were Shite, a park the bus team, playing like minnows (betraying your good history) whom were histerically aided by the refs against Brasil and against Uruguay. TRUE FUCKING STORY FOR FUCKS SAKE!

Re: post "Golden Generation" England
Lots of hot air was emanating from South America day 1 after the group stages. By the semi finals, all I felt was a cool emptiness echoing over the seas. I see some of them still haven't accepted what we always knew. True story. All one needs to do is open one's eyes.
