Newcastle ponder sensational £11M Cassano move

Newcastle United are ready to take Antonio Cassano off the hands of Real Madrid.

Cassano declared last week that he'd made a mistake in joining Real and has made an open plea to former club AS Roma to re-sign him in January.

The News of the World says Toon chiefs are weighing up a sensational move for the £11 million-rated firebrand, who was banished from the first team squad last week after blowing up at coach Fabio Capello.

i don't believe this story is true, but would anyone be surprised if this deal did happen.

Real Madrid sign Owen for £8m then sell him to Newcastle for £16m.
They sign Cassano for £3m and sell him to Newcastle for £11m.

If this deal is not just rumor then Freddie Shepperd would seriously deserve to be lined against a wall and shot for incompetence and negligence.

Newcastle are in real trouble, they cant keep spending and spending on players who dont improve anything, ok i am being a bit unfair, Owen and Martins are great players but have got injured, Cassano wouldn't help Newcastle problems IMO, if they are going to splash that kind of money on a striker it should be a proven premiership goalscorer

Defence, defence, defence. They also need to strengthen that crappy, overrated midfield. Parker is average, Emre is overrated and Duff has lost it completely.

Cassano is a player in desperate need of a strong coach who will support him through everything.

This story is only marginally less stupid that the Gudjohnsen-Newcastle one.

It's almost as though the journos have set there, finally realised that Shearer retired and Newcastle are a bit short up front, and decided to pick names out of a hat and made up some stories.

Still, the journos have been quicker to realise this than the Newcastle board and management. They seemed to think that Owen and Martins were suitable replacements. It's as though they've never watched a game of football.

Cassano would never go to a team fighting for relegation. He wants to get back to the Azurri and going to Newcastle would all but kill his chances.
