One of the best CB's around.

But I think Cech's absence is just as important too.

Doesn't help that the first 2 games they had without him in the side were against Shithouse teams like Everton and to a lesser extent Wigan.

He's perfectly suited to the way they play aswell in a way which Boulahrouz isn't yet.

Still doesn't make him very good Razz

Yup. Using their shithouse tactics. Flukely mistake for the 3rd goal and fouls in the build up to the first 2.

All Everton do is lump it forward or pray for Arteta to do something out of the ordinary... like pass along the deck.

So lets not beef and get back to the topic. I think They do miss terry's ariel presence as most of the goals conceded have been headed ones. Chelsea are still ok when the ball is on the floor.

    *He's important for his Leadership/ Never-say-die attitude.

*Boulahrouz & Carvalho rarely play together - so they aren't totally in sync with each other.

*This is made even worse by Hilario - he gives no confidence at all to his defence.

*Chelsea don't have a player who is used to sitting deep, just to head it away, so the Mediocre/Lack of creative dross in the league can make such "shithouse" tactics appear effective by getting change out of the mopore sophisticated Carvalho & Boulahrouz.
    -------------------------
If anyone has noticed - I've always said that Terry is a good EPL defender, profiting from the Defensive set-up at Chelsea.

It's just in the extra finesse/high-line of the Intl. Arena that his limitations get brutally exposed. Mourinho has set up the team to maximise his strengths, and minimise his weaknesses. Ale

My opinion is that Terry's shit scared, and so he chooses to not play. Big pussy! get out there and play. I've seen defenders play with worse injuries than back pains. I played with lower back pain. Take some aspirin and play!

    1) Gallas-Essien-Makélelé (more on Essien later) is the main reason why Chelsea can't plug the holes in defense anymore. In the past Gallas could just cover any position, and Chelsea's defensive problems were solved. Since there's no Gallas, HUGE problems. See how Arsenal ALSO MISS GALLAS! Biggrin

    2) With Gallas gone, the saviour now is Essien, and he's doing an excellent job covering as a fullback. PROBLEM is WHO COVERS ESSIEN'S POSITION? and, most importantly with Essien not helping out Makélelé, attackers are coming onto to Chelsea head on. Mourinho HAS TO PLAY ESSIEN AND MAKELELE TOGETHER.

I'm not surprised Chelsea are letting in goals, and Carvalho-Boulahrouz partnership will struggle. Not only they're learning to play together, they are exposed big time with Essien as fullback. It doesn't matter who partners in central defense as long as Essien's playing as fullback and there's no help for Makélelé there. Makélelé could've hack it by himself two years ago by himself, but not now.

    3) Hilario is a good keeper, but the whole chemistry in Chelsea's defense is out of whack. Even with Cech in there the goals will be getting in.

Watch how the Motsons, Hansens, Grays, Lawros and the rest of them fuckos will say how much Chelsea miss Terry and stuff. Laugh Ale

Whatever excuse we all come up with terry is the main reason for Chelsea slipping..... This is the EPL and not european tournaments or world cups but the highest test of football week in and week out.......Very Happy Many so called world class players cannot hack it but Terry can being a monster for this type of league there is no replacement.....<Ale>
Said a while back Mourinho is feeling the heat. Whatever he does is not enough.....Role on United..ok

TM.........If you want Spurs to finish higher.....King should start watching Terry more. Because he lacks the ability of King, Terry uses his brain better positioning himself and the defence when under pressure...Wink

He's a very good defender, very good in the air - him and drogba are the reason why chelsea are almost unbeatable in the air- so they do miss him. However, it's worth pointing out even with Terry in the side chelsea haven't been the best defensively in the league this season - the first time in what 2 or 3 seasons? so that's where the Gallas factor comes in.

Post by Ricardo Jol Wed Dec 27, 2006 9:15 am

Terry fits very well in Mourinho's system. He loves the physical game. He is one of the best defenders when it comes to man marking in a defensive system....

One point I want to throw in.... Terry is more allowed to foul attackers in the EPL than the other defenders. I saw hundred of thousands fouls from Terry where the ref just coincidently looked at the other side...

But.... the most important defender is always the goalie. His miss is the biggest blow for Chelsea. When a defence trusts a goalie they defend with more confidence and they are better organised!

BTW Boulah has to get used to EPL defending.... Just like Van der Sar and Ooijer.... The Dutch defend totally different from the English so especially in defence you have to give the Dutchies some time... Van der Sar is now BY FAR the best Goal keeper in England but he also had a difficult start at Fulham...

You English rate us Dutchies too high. You think we are easy integrated in England so let’s buy them all. And because, the English way of living is not significant different from the Dutch way so we feel soon comfortable at home in England, we are only a little bit LESS civilised than English people... The football is completely different though! Only attackers are directly integrated (look at Kuyt) but defenders need to get some time. Please, give us some time....

Boulah for instance is not used yet to play the physical game... he has to get used to that. He put himself under-pressure by saying he wants to play CB and showed he is not ready yet to play that game in Chelsea 1. Another thing is he is more used to play in an attacking team instead of the physical way of defending Chelsea is doing. He had to man mark Heskey while he is more a positional defender...
