Newell hits out at "foreigners" in the English gam

Luton boss Mike Newell could face disciplinary action after criticising foreign players and match officials after his side's 3-2 loss at West Brom.
"Should play have stopped before the second? The linesman had a good view of the incident," he said referring to the injury to his player David Bell.

"Most officials are not capable of refereeing or running the line anyway."

He added: "When a ball is put out and a player gets up it annoys me. We're going soft because of the foreigners."

He added: "As soon they are touched, they go to ground.

"I will never have a player feigning injury, ever. I don't want those players in my side.

"You have this kicking the ball out and then someone gets straight up. They should be embarrassed."

Luton were leading 2-1 until the last two minutes of the game before a Kevin Phillips double gave Albion a dramatic win.

In all fairness, he did apologise for and retract his comments about female officials.

I agree with him, inasmuch as foreigners dive more than British players. In truth, the problem isn't diving players, it is officials who do nothing about it. If everytime a player went down and the opposition kicked it out, only for the player to miraculously leap back to his feet to run over to take the throw, then the offending player should be booked and a free kick given against him. And this should happen every time, even if it means sending a player off for diving twice in the same game.

But refs shrug their shoulders and fail to take responsibility.

I get annnoyed more by card waving than diving, I think players that do the fake card wave should get an automtic red card.

The EPL isn't as bad as other leagues for punishing diving though, in la liga they get away with murder most weeks

I don't think he actually meant his apology about the sexist comments. I think he just did it under pressure from his club's board.

Don't get me wrong - I could easily name 20 British players who dive (predominantly English), just that in an average 90 minute game, the ones who dive the most tend to be foreign.

Pretty much, which seems idiotic. Two of the most lambasted divers in the Premiership are Drogba and Ronaldo, probably the two best players at those two clubs.
