Re: David Bentley
I like Bentley, but I wouldnt compare him to SWP Downing or Lennon. He isnt really a winger in my eyes.

That was my point earlier. He can play and do a good job on the wing but he'll more than likely end up in central midfield.

TeamSpirit™ wrote:He's a no.10 IMO - put him in between two DM's and the Striker(s) and allow him to drift, and he'll be devastating IMO. But then again, he'll sadly end up like J.Cole, Dunn, Scholes, McManaman, Merson, Barnes, Le tissier etc. etc. - doing a fill-in job at left wing or just being totally wasted by England.
That makes you question how on earth the "wunderkinder" continually does that role.

Well, he doesn't. Or at least, he's still an inconsistent player with a lot to prove.

I can only assume that Fergie wouldn't tolerate that, so none.

Re: David Bentley
Blackburn midfield man David Bentley has signed a new contract that keeps him at Ewood Park until summer 2011.
The 22-year-old former England under-21 star has been in outstanding form this season and had been linked with a move to Manchester United.
Blackburn boss Mark Hughes said: "He is a great talent with a big future and we are delighted to have signed him up for the long-term."
He signed from Arsenal in January 2006 and has scored six times this season.
Hughes added: "David has really blossomed this season to produce a consistently high level of performance."
Chairman John Williams added: "David is widely regarded as one of the best young footballers in the country and this represents a very significant deal for the club, underpinning out determination to continue to move forward with ambition."

I reckon two more seasons at Blackburn, then he'll move on.

Re: David Bentley
I think next season will be his last at Ewood Park. If he maintains is form until the end of the season who knows.
Blackburn tying up down on a long term contract is good from their perspective. It will mean they get a good fee for him.

Could be right.
But still, I don't think Blackburn are flushed with cash. A decent offer of £8 - 10 million would probably get him.

Re: David Bentley
Wouldn't be so sure about that Parky,
Blackburn will compare him to the Ashley Young transfer and argue he has more experience and is more consistant, add to that a new contract and he could be an expensive (Newcastle) acquisition this summer
Im only joking by the way Kimbo, so don't spit your dummy out.

Now I remember the those days. The mood towards England players (or potential England players) was so much more positive back then. How times have changed.

Amazing what MOTD can do
then I saw him play regularly in the flesh for us, was a complete show pony. Worst transfer in the history of the club.

Bentley at least delivered, albeit briefly. Wilshere is a manufactured icon, all smoke and mirrors and marketing. It's hard to believe the US Government aren't involved somehow.

Fair enough. Sounds like he had some mental issues to me as much as he's claiming otherwise.

What would he do with the rest of his life? Savage has cornered the comedy ex-footballer market. He'll have to learn to bake cakes or something.

Wilshere is a million times more talented than Bentley ever was. He's going to shut up a lot of people this season injuries permitting - mark my words
I have often repeated on here that Bentley and Gamst Pedersen were the 2 most overrated players in the PL. I even preferred Eboue to the Beckham wannabe http://www.europeanboard.net/t13677-bentley-vs-eboue?highlight=bentley

Like TS I rated Bentley for a time, you should learn from our experience and not overrate a player that will most likely sabotage his own career.

Not comparable IMO
Wilshere is an elite talent, Bentley wasn't. You and some others just jumped on the media bandwagon and thought he was something special.
Wilshere's biggest obstacle to making it to the top of Europe is injuries. No player can progress if they are constantly injured, they guy has played very little football over the past 3 seasons, so it's normal that he hasn't progressed as we all expected. Even Messi (probably one of the top 5 players to ever the play the game) has not looked the same player since he started picking up injuries in the last 12 months.

I have watched every single game Wilshere has played in our 1st team (no highlights but full games). I'm sure you watched Blackburn week in week out and never relied on match of the day highlights to see them play

Re: David Bentley
Well i'm convinced, the Arsenal fan thinks the Arsenal player has elite talent because he watches full Arsenal games.
