Make a Dream Team of players born in 1974 or before. So your XI, plus subs if you want, will be made up of players aged 33 or over from the league you follow.

    Premiership:

    - - - - - - - - - - James - - - - - - - - - -

    Solano - Primus - Campbell - Valente

    - - - - - - - - - Makelele - - - - - - - - -
    - - - - - Scholes - - - - Speed - - - - -

    . Solskjaer - - - - - - - - - - - - - Giggs
    - - - - - - - - - - - Kanu - - - - - - - - - -

Subs: VDS, Hyypia, Campo, Tugay, Berger, Sheringham, A Cole.

That's why he plays there only in the grandad-XI. Biggrin And besides there aren't many right back in la liga born before 1975.

That's funny I went through the biggest squads in France and I only managed to find two defenders.

The Milan team could fill all those positions(almost) and you people found it hard to find them in your leagues.

    First 11

    Peruzzi
    Panucci Costacurta Materazzi Tonetto
    Zanetti Doni Dacourt Serginho
    Vieri Inzaghi

    Second 11

    Pagliuca
    Cafu Siviglia Couto Maldini
    Figo Tedesco Di Biagio Delvecchio
    Chiesa Amoruso

no room for Dida, Bucci, Toldo, Iuliano. Not sure if Montella qualifies either since he's on loan??

Theres quite alot in Serie A! Imagine if Juve were still there, then we'd have Birindelli, Del Piero, Nedved etc.

There are a lot of quality (old) players in Italy. How come usually Italian players retire late?, unlike in some other leagues they will stop at 32-33.
Is it because their physical abilities?

I think Italy also tends to bring in young players at a later age - both from the youth team as well as in terms of transfers. The big teams tend to prefer players in their peak - look at Milan or Juventus (ok, not such a good example because they are rebuilding this season).

But I'm just guessing here. Serie A followers can correct me if I'm wrong.

the physical preparation and control of players in Italy, and especially at Milan is famous. I have read many times that Dutch players were very impressed with the close medical control and physical tests, as well as the closely controlled diets etc. at Milan. This must be one of the reasons for their longevity as players.

I think the pace of the Italian league also helps the older players.

Look what happened to Sheva when he moved to the Premiership or a defender that goes to La Liga from Serie A.

Deschamps used to say when he was playing for Juventus, that some players vomited during training because physical preparations were that hard.
