Although I wont be able to go to Athens for a number of reasons, I still like to know that my loyalty would be rewarded if neccesary, sadly today I found out what was predicted by many for quite some time.
Uefa have issues, the problem comes from the fact that the Olympic stadium holds 63,000 people, not a huge allocation to be fair considering the occasion, what worries me is that both Milan and Liverpool will recieve a pathetic 17,000 tickets each.
Do the maths, 63,000 subtract 34,000 = 29,000
so where are those other 29,000 tickets going to? the 'big wigs' at Uefa of course, 'important people', sponsorships etc etc, that's all nice and well, supplying people who do contrabute some things to the clubs and the competition but fundamentally it's the supporters who keep football alive, without them the sport would die and there would be no money for anyone.
I cant speak for Milan, because I don't know how their ticket scheme works but I can speak for Liverpool.
Liverpool have a system where Season ticket holders ultimately get the first pick for cup tickets, well actually that's not entirely true, it's the shareholders who get first choice, that's right even rich people who may not have been to a single Liverpool game this season have first choice of those 17,000 tickets.
Season tickets then get the choice, but only if they qualify with the credits, meaning the amount of CL ties they have attended this season, the number that Liverpool have been forced to announce for the qualifying credits is 7.
Work out how many CL games Liverpool have played this season, the number is 12.
6 away, 6 home, so that means you must have a mixture of both to qualify, e.g. 5 home and 2 away, 6 home and 1 away, 5 away and 2 home etc etc.
This thus rules out anyone who has been to all the home CL games and no away games, sounds fair? consider this, Liverpool fans without a season ticket can not, and i stress this purchase an away CL ticket through the club, it is simply not possible, because for any CL away game the club always make it clear that any fan card holders or season ticket holders must have previous CL away games on their fan card from the previous season, but this is negated when you realise you dont have any previos CL away history and so it renders you unable to get a ticket, because you miss out on tickets for the current season it then renders you unable to buy one the next season and the next season and so forth.
So all in all the fans who got the fan card as a result of it being virtually impossible to get a season ticket at Liverpool, and got the 6 home games on their card will not be able to get a ticket for Athens unless they are successful in a ballot that will be used, should the tickets fail to sell, remember the amount of Liverpool fans in Istanbul though and this seems very unlikely.
On Uefa's part, how does this help the game? it's the fans who are left dissapointed and the event isn't used to it's full potential.
What are your views on this? can you understand my concerns and if you don't understand something that I've said I will clarify it for you
