Romário's 1000

Romário took the penalty and scored his 1000th goal against Sport, in a Brazilian league match.

he took the ball from the net and then the reporters invaded the pitch and surrounded him. he talked for a few moments, then his mother entered the pitch and embraced him. they cried in each other arms.

reporters were making a human fence around him. Eurico Miranda, Vasco's president, a fat, old gangster, entered the pitch smoking a cigar alongside a police officer to protect the Best Striker Ever from the reporters.

then Romário's daughters and sons (generated by many a woman) entered the field to embrace and kiss him. and then his father. all of them wearing Vascos's jersey.

the Best Striker Ever, always surrounded by the reporters, went around the field saluting - and being saluted by - the fans and speaking to the country through the insistent reporters.

the game stopped for 15 minutes.

Glad he finally did it. I found the pitch invasion quite funny, but now that I think of it, it was appropriate.

I agree it was funny. it shows the amateurism of our managers. but I like that. at least this funny side of our amateurism.


this same invasion happened when Pelé scored his 1000th at Maracanã.

Yeah, it's the kind of thing that the federation, FIFA, etc. would not like, but it shows the passion of fans that makes football such a popular sport.

btw, is that Tevez in the white shirt in your avatar?

yeah, that was when Corinthians played againsst Vasco in 2005. Tevez and Romário were the captains. I'm proud to say I was in this game. the score was 2-2.
