Post by Forza Italia!Forza Milan! Tue Jun 26, 2007 2:23 am

It looked all doom and gloom for Juve last season, but I think there is reason for great hope. I think Juve will probably make the top 4 this season.

    Personnel

Juve seem to be building a strong team. They lost Zambrotta, Cannavaro, Emerson, Vieira and Ibrahimovic, which is a clear out but not on a grand scale that many predicted.

They have now managed to retain Buffon, Del Piero, Trezeguet, and Nedved. They have also brought in class signings like Iaquinta, Almiron and Tiago.

They will probably land one of Milito or Canna for their defence. That means their spine will probably be Buffon--Canna/Milito---Tiago---Del Piero---Iaquinta---Trezeguet.

IMO those names are brimming with quality.

They have appointed Ranieri, whom I am not a big fan of. But on the personnel front, I give Juve a 7.5/10.

    Financial side

They lost their shirt sponsorship with Tamoil, which was, incidentally, the most lucrative shirt sponsorship deal in Europe. However, they are now going to be sponsored by FIAT and they are going to be making 33 million euros a year.

They also received a capital hike of EUR 104.8 million to help fund their transfer campaign.

Being bankrolled by a rich company certainly helps!

Juve, however, have to get into the Champions League at the first time of asking, and I feel like they have a very good shot.

    Overall- 7/10

    ----

Unlike many, I think Juve haven't really lost THAT much quality. Del Piero, Trezeguet, Buffon, and Iaquinta are solid players, three of them World Champions.

I think they have a very good chance of finishing top 4, Lazio doesnt have a big enough squad to handle both European and domestic competition IMO.

Iaquinta, Tiago and Almiron are ready for the first team and they will also buy an established defender as well. Juventus also have some promising youngsters like Marchisio, Chiellini and Palladino.

Yes. After the good news on Trezeguet, the attack looks all set & with Tiago, Zanetti & Almiron the central midfield looks better as well. We need to still think of the wings though esp. on the left as we need someone to back Nedved. Salihamidzic & Marchionni look good on the right & not to mention if Camoranesi also decides to follow suite to Trezeguet's example.
But yes like you mentioned Forza, we need to buy a good CB to strengthen the defense

No one said it was doom and gloom - the only real debate was whether they'd ge tUEFA football or CL football.

As you say, they still have one of the best keepers out there + a splattering of top class players with the potential to invest in more

they basically lost 3 years if they cannot challenge for the title this year. Not that much? Quite a bit I think.

Did Trez play a lot in 1998 for France? I can't remember. All I remember is Guivarche (spelling?) up front for France and missing sitter after sitter in the Final.

I remember Henry, but did Trez play?

I think I remember him scoring against saudia or someone... and he definately scored a penalty against Italy in the quarter final shootout...

But you are right, I think he was a Djoerkaef substitute at that time...

I think Trezeguet played in all of the matches (either starting or as a substitute) aside from the final...

The biggest thing Juve have lost is all the help they used to get from the referees.

Will Juve be playing at the Stadio Communale, or will they be going back to Delle Alpi? Speaking of which, any news on its redevelopment?

IMO they will just miss out on CL.

I think they lost quite a bit actually - possibly 3 seasons with out Champions League plus half a very good team in Cannavaro, Zambo, Vieira, Emerson, Ibra.

I like/rate Almiron and Tiago but they don't have the power or experience of Vieira and Emerson.

I'm a fan of Iaquinta but he doesn't have the class of Ibra.

My guess is that they will stick to the tried and tested 4-2-3-1:

    ----------------Buffon
    Grygera - Milito? - Barzagli? - Molinero
    ---------Zanetti - Almiron
Salihamidzic - Nedved - Del Piero
    ----------------Trezeguat

Wasn't that just a Capello formation? What did they play before him? Ranieri will probably go with a 4-4-2.

They played 4231 under Lippi aswell.

Juve have 4 top quality strikers which is quite alot for a team that won't be playing in Europe.

Well, this is how the squad looks as of now & the possible formation for the season

    -----------------------------Buffon-----------------------------------

    Zebina-------Grygera--------------Birindelli---------------Cheillini

    Salihamidzic-----Tiago--------------Zanetti-----------------Nedved

    --------------------DelPiero----------Trezeguet---------------------

If we get Milito or Cannavaro then Grygera can replace Zebina
If Camoranesi decides to stay then Salihamidzic can double up as a right back
Almiron will back Zanetti or Tiago in the central midfield
We also have Marchionni for the wings & Marchisio in the center
Iaquinta/ Delps would be rotated as Delps would not last the entire game & maybe with a 3 striker formation delps can drop back behind Trez & Iaquinta
