These are the 10 midfielders that Vicente Del Bosque has called up for the upcoming friendly with Chile and Euro qualifier with Liechtenstein:

    Javi Martinez (Athletic Bilbao)

    Andres Iniesta (Barcelona)

    Xavi Hernandez (Barcelona)

    Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona

    Juan Manuel Mata (Chelsea)

    Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid)

    Sergio Busquets (Barcelona)

    Santi Cazorla (Malaga)

    David Silva (Manchester City)

    Thiago Alcantare (Barcelona)

I'm like seriously what the flying fuck, Jesus Christ thats so much quality, it would take a few teams to match them up in terms of numbers, but they would still drop short in terms of quality

While you Netherlanders hope for an implosion in the Spanish camp, we want to beat them when they're strong, actually at their sharpest. We want to beat the strongest and become the strongest, you're just waiting for others to slip so you can benefit like hyenas. Ale

We just want to save the best for last: to outplay the superior German team in the euro finals and beat them...! I'm already looking forward to that day!

New squad for Spain. Interesting to see the call up of Jordi Alba. I think it's clear that Capdevila is not going to feature in the next Euros and although Arbeloa will probably be the first choice there really should be a back up plan. Could have possibly called Jose Angel, Monreal, or Jose Enrique but Alba has been doing really well.

    Porteros: Casillas, Reina, Valdés
Defensas: Ramos, Arbeola, Puyol, Piqué, Albiol, Jordi Alba
Centrocampistas: Busquets, Xabi, Cesc, Pedro, Cazorla, Mata, Javi Martínez, Silva, Xavi, Thiago
Delanteros: Torres, Villa, Negredo y Llorente

Alba has done well for Valencia but I always thought of him more as either a tactical option (like against Barça) or a temporary solution in case of injuries. Not sure it's a good idea to have a 5'7" player as a left-back, unless you're playing weak opposition where he can just bomb forward all the time.

Spain are up 0-2 away to Czech Republic and finding it easy. Xavi played an absolutely majestic defense splitting through ball for the first goal. Video here:

I don't see a problem - those 4 are all mid-career (apart from Arbeloa), but there's loads of other talented young players coming through and already on the fringes of the squad. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if many of these overtake the likes of Jose Enrique and Albiol.

Victor Ruiz, Alvaro Dominguez, Alberto Botia, Marc Bartra, Martin Montoya, Nacho Monreal, Cesar Azpilicueta...those are just the ones I can think off the top of my head.

Plus there are tactically versatile backup options like Javi Martinez or Sergio Busquets who are still young and can fill in if required...kind of like Marchena in reverse.

i think its time for spain to drop alonso and stick to the formation they played against scotland with silva/cesc playing the false 9 role, would be much more difficult for opposition to stop at the euros. not saying alonso isn't good enough, but a midfield of

    -------Busquest

    ---Xavi-----------Iniesta

is better than anything at the euros are in the world for that matter

    ---?/Pedro-----Silva/Cesc----Villa

    = the business

In fact, why not rule out clubs other than Barcelona from representing Spain.

I might have thought it could be time to drop Pedro and play Xavi, Iniesta, Silva behind Villa. With Alonso and Busquets behind that is a little more intimidating still from a German perspective.

Then again that leaves the question of where to fit Cesc in – still just a supersub? Or drop an extra defensive midfielder?

I have to say that is a pretty good squad. I like Navas in there because it does give the opportunity to vary the play and go with out and out wingers if the situation dictates it (with him and Cazorla). Interesting to see Monreal back in the squad. I think Del Bosque is going to do an open casting for left back between now and next summer because it looks like Capdevila won't be in the squad next summer (which is the correct decision in my opinion) so I think J. Enrique will eventually get a chance. Maybe if he stayed in Newcastle he would have got a call-up. Biggrin
