30. (-) Zico, Brasilien
29. (-) Nilton Santos, Brasilien
28. (-) William Dean, England
27. (-) Didì, Brasilien
26. (-) Raymond Kopa, Frankrig
25. (-) Zinedane Zidane, Frankrig
Zidane has one in common with the great maradona and that is they have both lead a team with obivous weaknesses to WC final.
24. (-) Dino Zoff, Italien
23. (-) László Kubala, Ungarn
Many get surprised when they find out that Kubala was voted barcas best player of all time ahead of great players like crujif and maradona(allthough his time was shortlived)
22. (-) Bobby Charlton, England
21. (-) Nándor Hidegkuti, Ungarn
20. (-) Eusebio, Portugal
19. (-) Gunnar Nordahl, Sverige
18. (-) Marco van Basten, Holland
17. (-) Gordon Banks, England
16. (-) Luis Suarez, Spanien
15. (-) Omar Sivori, Argentina
14. (-) Gianni Rivera, Italien
What would have happened if Gianni had gotten more then 7 mins of the 1970 final. we will never know but it will haunt italy coach Ferruccio Valcareggi.
13. (-) Juan Schiaffino, Uruguay
12. (-) Ferenc Puskas, Ungarn
11. (-) Franz Beckenbauer, Tyskland
10. (-) José Nasazzi, Uruguay
9. (-) Fernando Hierro, Spanien
In the latin part of europe italy is the frontrunner of defensive playes. Hierro is the exception to the rule. Hierro is carrying on the toarch from santamaria. the difference is Hierro carried defensively weaker teams and that cant be undervalued. italians get angry when you claim that a spaniard could ever have been a better defender then an italian but the truth is he is better then Ferraris,Picchi,Parola,Scirea, Ciro ferrara and cannavaro. And he does it with the best passing game of defender in morderen times, leadership, footballbrain, great freekicks. Hierro had it all
8. (-) Johan Cruyff, Holland
Cruyff has always put his mark on everything he got involved with. on paper he was a center forward but he played it liked no one ever did. he led the netherlands to the WC final but the fairytale stopped there and he couldnt lift them over germany.
7. (-) Lev Yashin, Sovjetunionen
6. (-) Giuseppe Meazza, Italien
5. (-) Garrincha, Brasilien
The worlds best winger was best at home but boy was he good. very important in the 62 win but started calm down after the failed 66 world cup.
4. (-) Valentino Mazzola, Italien
3. (-) Pelé, Brasilien
Peles 3 world cups captured the hole world and made him popular like nobody could have imagined. he had major succes with santos and its easy to like a player who stayed in the same club for almost all his time. whats really interesting is whether or not he could have lifted a slightly above mediocre napoli side to the title. Peles fans wont even hesitait but GOAL does.
2. (-) Alfredo Di Stéfano, Argentina
When Stefano stopped he had won 8 leage titles, 5 european cups, a intercontinentiel cup, a spanish cup on the Real team that dominated all in the 50's and 60's. That Real side was filled with good players but none of them was nearly as important as Stefano. with a luckier setting on his national team and more Tv coverage he might even have been seen as the best ever.
1. (-) Diego Maradona, Argentina
Maradonas time in napoli has really stuck in memory. the club would never have won the title without him. when he left the club had won 2 titles and the world cant forget that. after a title with napoli in 90 he tried to defend the WC from 86 and that 90 argentina team was even better proof that maradona could take any average team and lead them to the top. the comparison with pele is striking. pele won with a bunch of stars while maradona had to settle with alot less. that can only work for the best.
