    1. before playing Holland in the Euro 88 SEMIS, the Nationalmannschaft were celebrating so hard, they played the game with a collective hangover (according to Klinsi)

    2. after watching the last England Group Game at Germany 2006, Schneider was disappointed NOT to play those Rumpel-footballers

    3. Penalty shoot-out vs Argentina: after losing from the spot-kick, the Argies physically assaulted Mertesacker, thinking he was Borowski; whenever a German went to the penalty spot, the Argies would tease him to destroy his concentration; the Germans were unimpressed and went on with business; when Boro had converted his penalty , he walked past the Argies and put his finger on his mouth, telling them to please be quiet, "penalties in progress"

them Argies hated Teutonic valor and lost it completely

makes you wonder whether Hatton is a Gaucho

For something to constitute a wind-up, it must make enough sense to annoy other people. This makes no sense at all so I give it 1/10: must try harder Otto.

    it's not a wind-up at all

I am currently reading the World Cup diaries of the S. Wortmann, who shot the Nationalmannschaft documentary and therefore has some extra insights

    one fascinating point:

to everybody's surprise Kuranyi was not selected AT ALL, instead Hanke got the nod

Wortmann now says that Kuranyi was in charge of MUSIC in the hotel and bus to the frustration of Klinsi, Bierhoff... who hated his style and always said: "quieter please"

the other guy co-responsible for music was Owomoyela, who also did not get the nod

the third Mannschaft DJ was Deisler, who was out of contention anyway

    ie

Klinsi could now chose HIS OWN MUSIC and went for Naidoo, that became the theme music of the Mannschaft

I wonder whether this had anything to do with it

    +

    on Italy

    the Italians were quite clever

Klinsi told the Mannschaft that Toni and Co were terrified of Germany

when they entered the Dortmund arena though, for a training session, they did not go into their own half, but joined Germany and mingled with them; in a completely relaxed way, demonstrating that they were completely at ease

    Klinsi's tactics were now destroyed

    5) the Miracle of Bern - Germany's 1st World Title in 1954 - was solely the consequence of the disgraceful biassed reereeing of the English ref William Ling. England had been trashed twice beforehand by the Hungarians. This (and/or to a lesser degree them being communist ) was porbably the reason for his biass.

Hence the German Wirtshaftswunder & later World Titles were not caused by Germans but by a crooked English ref.

Not only the BBC conveniently never touched this issue; all English & German media hardly did.
