La Liga Jornada 25 Empty La Liga Jornada 25

Post by fcb Thu Feb 21, 2008 8:25 am

After midweek European action, it's back to the league on the weekend. Atletico and Villarreal could have a tough time away to Osasuna and Athletic, esp. if the former two don't recover in time from their UEFA matches. Barça should have no problems getting 3 pts at home against Levante, and hopefully Getafe can manage to get some points off Madrid, despite not being allowed to play De La Red and Granero getting a deliberate yellow to be suspended. Racing-Almeria should be another interesting, though not exactly exciting, match.

Counting your chickens again Kas. Madrid v Getafe should be interesting though. Is it considered a derby in Madrid and Spain? Hopefully Recreativo can do us a favour and kick the ball out hard if a player is injured, which hits Koeman on the head and knocks some sense into him. Forlorn hope I know, but one can dream! Is Riga still playing for Levante? If he is in the absence of Since 1888, 'Don't forget the Mighty Riga!'

Madrid-Getafe is indeed considered a derby, but obviously not as fierce as Madrid-Atletico or Madrid-Barça. There may be some added spice considering Schuster used to coach them, but that spice may be diluted by the fact that Getafe have a UEFA game 3 days before, and cannot use De La Red or Granero.

As for us against Levante, well, I'll just use Jaime's philosophy - if we can't beat them at home, then we don't deserve to win the league anyway. And yes, Riga will be someone to watch out for, esp. considering how easily we conceded 2 silly goals yesterday.

What has happened regarding Levante. While in GHana I heard that they were allowing players to leave and find other clubs if they waived what they were owed. How did their finances go so badly wrong? Really don't like to see them in this sorry state. I maintain the ideal solution for all Valencians is for Soler to sell Valencia to Soriano and use the mney to buy Levante, which he cn then rebuild and get the love of part of Valencia. If he takes Koeman with him hell we'll even forgive him!

Levante is a disaster. They just paid the monthly wages to the players and other club employees this past week and they had to take out a loan to do that!

If Barsa don't crush them, I will be shocked.

He is. Even SPORT said so bounce Razz

Anyway, the main "Russian" club that was interested in him said they are not going to buy him.

If I understand this correctly, the Levante players will protest for 1 minute after the ref blows his whistle to kick off the match on Sunday:

In the lower leagues they tend to sit-down to protest. They'll do it for a minute or until the opposition put the ball out of play.

Who owns Levante and what is being done about them? Obviously they aren't capable of running a football club. Does the Spanish Federation have the power to step in and put them out to tender or somehing like that? Is there any talk of a buyout? Surely some rich Spaniard could do something with them. Would be a real shame if they go broke and then out of existence. They are Valencia's oldest major club after all.

They wont disappear. In the lower leagues it's not unusual for some clubs to owe wages to their players, but what usually happens is that they play in full before the registration period for the next season.

Regarding the ownership, I think Villaroel is the majority shareholder, but I remember reading that he may be selling his shares.

    Valencia 1 - Recre 1

Valencia played pretty well. Banega was immense, and made a lovely assist. He and Silva worked well together in midfield. Maduro was pretty ordinary again though. Zigic didn't have his scoring boots on. Dodgy decision for Recre's goal too. A little unlucky were Valencia tonight.

Well, I didn't really see Sevilla challenging for the title this year. In fact, I believed they would struggle to finish in the top 4. Then after the Puerta tragedy and the unexpected departure of Juande they really looked down for the count. But they have slowly turned things around and given the fact that neither Atletico, Villarreal, or Espanyol have have taken advantage of opportunities to really cement their place in the top 4, Sevilla find themselves with an opportunity to get back in to the race for a CL spot. It will be interesting to see how their continued involvement in the CL affects their league campaign but if Luis Fabiano can keep up his scoring I think they have just as much as chance as anyone going down the stretch.
