Hopefully looking at at least two top class games in this group. Would be great for the neutral if all teams still had a chance of progressing in the final matches.

exciting looking group, Romania are no mugs especially if Chievu and Mutu are on form. Their performances will decide the group and it could even be decided on goal fifference/goals scored.

Very happy we, the Dutch, don't start against Romania. A draw or worse against the team with the least supposed individual talent could really negatively affect the team. I could see France drawing with them and already having an uphill battle after the first game.

Not sure about Romania, but the other 3 teams coaches are under pressure, Van Basten the least out of the other 2 (Donadoni & Domenech) as he will leave after the Euros ..

I think Italy will definitively go through, after anything can happen. Still think France or Holland will finish second an Romania not far.

I think Italy will go out. Just think that after winning the world cup, they may not be so focused on this one - and with a tough group like that, that'll cost them.

    France + Holland, I reckon.

Whats the likely starting eleven? and what would they do in the event that Toni was injured do you think?

    Most likely starting XI is:

    ------------------Buffon
    Panucci - Cannavaro - Materazzi - Zambrotta
-------De Rossi ---- Pirlo ---- Ambrosini
    Camoranesi --------Toni-----------Di Natale

Some likely options to be used in this formation are:
    - Quagliarella for Camoranesi
    - Gattuso for Ambrosini
    - Del Piero for Di Natale
    - Cassano for Camoranesi
    - Barzagli for Materazzi
    - Grosso at LB, and Zambrotta at RB

In the event of a Toni injury, Borreillo is the natural substitute. Though Donadoni has mentioned that he wouldn't mind experimenting with putting Del Piero in a central role, with Cassano just behind him.

Italy will also change the formation a bit along the comeptition, depending on the situation, getting in Perrotta/Aquilani instead of a winger.

Mexes would have easily made the Italian Starting XI if he were Italian! And Treze would have gone as a back up for Toni.

Typical dutch squad - great attacking talent, dodgy defensive line up. I guess Van Basten will make them start with a cautious approach.

An attacking Holland in form could end Italy's hopes in the first game itself. I wish Italy started with Romania, even though they are no mugs and can qualify from the group.

I haven't seen such a strong group since WC 1982 second group stage, when Italy, Brazil and Argentina fell into one group!! And that had resulted in 3 great great games.

Lets hope we see 2-3 great games in this group as well.

An attacking Holland in form could end Italy's hopes in the first game itself. I wish Italy started with Romania, even though they are no mugs and can qualify from the group.

This a joke? Holland could attack and attack, but 1 lapse in concentration at the back and it is all over before the cows come home. Italy are the masters of defending a lead.
Actually they are not.saw something about stats showing they are not really masters at doing that. it was just perception because the italian club teams were plus Italy were great at winning games they didnt deserve.

Correction: Italy WERE the masters of defending a lead.

What are you trying to do mate...? Put Italy in the underdog position? You look already a bit like Cannavaro and Toni... They both believe Oranje is by far the toughest opponent... No

Stop that nonsense please...! I don't believe those trics! Evil or Very Mad Rolling Eyes

Holland will line up a strong team (although no van Persie, no de Zeeuw) and I can't see Denmark to beat or draw us that way. You money is safe!

Typical dutch squad - great attacking talent, dodgy defensive line up.

Our attacking midfielders would be full strikers in most squads Wink

Then again our defenders wouldn't even make the bench in any other squad Embarassed[/quote]

Please go talk nonsense about Germany again : this thread is for the grown ups ok

De Zeeuw would walk into most teams at the EC, Van Bommel is the undisputed leader of your own beloved Bayern and half of Europe is chasing Engelaar Ale
