Russian Premier League 2009/2010 Empty Russian Premier League 2009/2010

Post by Pierre Littbarski Sun Mar 15, 2009 7:58 pm

Like a couple of others on here (De Guzzy is one) I sort of follow this league on EuroGoals etc but don't really know it that well 'cos I don't see live games from there.

Still worth its own thread though as it fast improving and has given us 2 of the last 4 UEFA Cup winners.

Anyway, looking at Rubin Kazan's squad I figured that one of the reason's they won the league was because Zenit had a massive fixture pile up due to UEFA Cup win and the season being postponed for the Euro's.

Zenit also had a couple of key players involved in this tournie which must have hindered them a bit.

I think most of us outsiders see CSKA and Zenit being a cut above the others in this league and I'd expect CSKA to take the title.

Rebrov's Rubin Kazan started with a win though:

    Week 1

    FK Amkar Perm' 0 - 0 FK Rostov-Na-Donu

I've never heard of either team or any of their players apart from peev the ex Dynamo Kiev player who is with the home side.

    Dinamo Moscow 1 - 0 FC Moscow
    90' Alexander Kerzhakov 1 - 0

As well as Kherzhakov Dinamo have Luke Wilkshire and Kolodin (the Cb with the really hard shot from Euro '08.

Fc Moscow have Edgaras Cesnauskis who, with a name like that, must have played for Hearts or will do at some point in the future.

    Lokomotiv Moscow 1 - 1 FC Khimki
    27' 0 - 1 Miodrag Jovanovic
    65' Dennis Glushakov 1 - 1

Lokomotiv have Diniyar Bilyaletdinov who was good in The Euro's and Peter Odemwingie who you will remember from Man U v Lille games - he was born in Russia.

Khimki I've never heard of but have Viktor Boudianski who played for a couple of clubs in Serie A.

FK Rubin Kazan 3 - 0 Kuban Krasnodar
    25' Alexander Bukharov 1 - 0
    32' Sergei Semak 2 - 0
    54' Alexander Bukharov 3 - 0

Semak and Rebrov are the players we will be more familiar with from The Champions line up - ex Sparta Rotterdam midfielder Sani Kaita plays for the visitors.

Spartak Moscow 1 - 1 Zenit St Petersburg
    2' Ivan Saenko 1 - 0
    16' 1 - 1 Pavel Pogrebniak

    Laudrup v Advocaat.

Zenit signed Fernando Meira from Galatasaray this week - Arshavin replacement Huszti stayed on the bench throughout.

FK Tom' Tomsk 0 - 1 PFK Samara Kryliya Sovetov
    51' 0 - 1 Evgeni Savin

Tom Tomsk are from Siberia - Jiri Jarosik and Jan Koller are familiar names for the away side.

    Saturn Moscow 0 - 3 CSKA Moscow
    31' Benoit Angbwa Red Card
    69' 0 - 1 Alan Dzagoev
    83' 0 - 2 Sergei Ignashevich
    87' 0 - 3 Sergei Ignashevich

No one really famous for the home side - we all know CSKA.

Wagner Love didn't play and Krasic only came on for the last 16.

    Terek Grozny 1 - 0 Spartak Nalchik
    90' Guedes Cleber 1 - 0

No one really famous in these teams.

    1 CSKA Moscow 3
    2 FK Rubin Kazan 3
3 PFK Samara Kryliya Sovetov 3
    4 Dinamo Moscow 3
    5 Terek Grozny 3
    6 Zenit St Petersburg 1
    7 Lokomotiv Moscow 1
    8 FK Amkar Perm' 1
    9 Spartak Moscow 1
    10 FC Khimki 1
    11 FK Rostov-Na-Donu 1
    12 FC Moscow 0
    13 FK Tom' Tomsk 0
    14 Spartak Nalchik 0
    15 Saturn Moscow 0
    16 Kuban Krasnodar 0

Do you know why Meira moved on so quickly from Gala? Did he not settle there, or did Zenit just make an offer that was too good to turn down?

Gala paid about EUR 4m for him in the summer and Zenit offered about EUR 6m.

He made a couple of clangers in the Gala v Bordeaux match but don't know if he did well for them apart from that.

He joined about 6 months before Arshavin left but yeah you're right.

I don't know if Huszti will rotate with him off the front man or play on teh left hand side or what.

Puygrennier is still at Bolton I think scratch

I think Zenit had a particularly packed July last season - they had a few weeks off prior to the UEFA Cup final in May, and from that point, the Russian league was suspended until after the European Championships - but they didn't suffer a really extensive fixture pile-up. They just had an uneven, inconsistent season. They scored lots of goals but even then they didn't take a lot of the chances they created during games, whilst they also conceded a lot. Pogrebnyak was out injured for an extended period; Anyukov was out for a little while; and they suffered injuries to their centre backs, so Shirokov, the converted midfielder, played a lot of games in the centre of defence for them - whilst he's good technically, he's not especially solid defensively. Meira should make them stronger at the back.

Rubin Kazan had a very good season last year, and I expect them to be up there again this season. They have a few good players. Semak is their leader in the centre of midfield; whilst nobody scored lots of goals for them last year, Bukharov, Rebrov and Karadeniz (a well-capped Turkish player who had a particularly good season) all chipped in with a number. They have a couple of Argentinians - a left back, Cristian Ansaldi; and a forward, Dominguez, who they've just signed from Zenit - and they were being linked to Cristian Ledesma from Olympiakos just last week, but I'm not sure whether the Russian transfer window has closed now.

They bought Roman Adamov, a tall forward who was in Russia's Euro 2008 squad but who didn't feature much, from FC Moscow midway through last season - he didn't play many games for them, but he'll probably feature much more this season, and he had a good goalscoring record for FC Moscow (he was the league's joint top scorer in 2007).

Lokomotiv Moscow have recently signed Baye Djiby Fall, a Senegalese forward who scored lots of goals in the Danish league last year.

If you go onto www.101greatgoals.com you can watch all the goals from European football this weekend.

I think he would he's at the right age but would take him a while to adapt to the Physicality and pace of the EPL.

To be honest I always thought he was better than Pav in the first place. Pav only played in the Euros because The Pog was injured.

It's like comparing Henry with Drogba, they both play in attack that's where the similarity ends. Of course Pav is a far better footballer & Pog is the closest thing we had to Horst Hrubesch (old Germany/HSV mean big box motherfucker.). Who's better depends on what you want / how you play.

By the way don't know if anyone rememebers my Pog is the best striker in the world thread. Just to be sure: that was a joke. Just was glad to see an old skool striker.

What's the story behind that Pierre?

Pog's goal was cracking. Really hoping to see the rise of the Eastern European clubs once again. Would make a refreshing change to see clubs from Eastern Europe challenging for the CL. The oligarchs seem to be trying to bring this to fruition what with them signing guys left right and centre from Brazil, as well as creating state of the art training facilities.

Horst Hrubesch scored the only goal for West germany v Austria in the final group game of WC'82.

If Germany won by 3 (?) or more they and Algeria would go through.

If Germany failed to win austria and Algeria would go through.

Hrubesch scored in the 1st ten mins or so and then both teams just pissed about for the rest of the game without either goal coming under threat.

From then on all final group games were played at the same time to stop a repeat.

Modern defenders would sh1t themselves from that guy in case they broke a nail or he ruffled their hair or got mud on their pressed strips. A footballing tank from a different age is that Teuton.
