@ frank... it's not worrying because the first choice team has not been played or probably even been close to being played yet... surely this is fairly simple logic....

as for the rest... read obispo's post

watch the game tonight... if we are still talking like this after it then i would be very surprised and maybe even would start to feel a bit worried... at this minute people are just clutching at straws...

P.S I had also never ever heard of peltier

    @ all northerners:

Formerly it included the City, Bethnal Green, Stepney, Shoreditch, Whitechapel, Finsbury, and Hackney although according to the legend of Dick Whittington the bells could be heard from as far away as Highgate.

The-Frank-Tavern wrote:COTR its worrying cos some of your players have had v little playing time pre-season, you and obispo have continually put a non challenge last season down to a poor start, if they aren´t ready then you could have the same prob this season, you cannot afford to be dropping cheap points from the outset it´ll leave you too much to do

and remind me which of these wont get any playing time and who´ve you never heard of

    Scott Carson
    Djimi Traore (ok he´s gone)
    Jamie Carragher
    Sami Hyypia
    Jan Kromkamp
    Boudewijn Zenden
    Xabi Alonso
    Steven Gerrard
    Jermaine Pennant
    Craig Bellamy
    Peter Crouch
    SUBS :
    Paul Anderson
Salif Diao (ok he wants to sell him)
    Jerzy Dudek
    Luis Garcia
    Jack Hobbs
    Gabriel Paletta
Lee Peltier (he is the only player i don´t know)
    John Arne Riise
    Momo Sissoko

    Frank,

I've said all along that we put out a strong side against Mainz. We were drawing 0-0 at half time, despite 5 of the team making their first pre-season start.

46 mins : Liverpool get the second period underway
46 mins : Substitution: Gabriel Paletta for Sami Hyypia:
46 mins : Substitution: Paul Anderson for Jermaine Pennant:
46 mins : GOAL! Markus Feulner: Kromkamp misses a deep cross to the far post and Faulkner controls the ball before firing it past Carson from 12 yards

1-0 down. Individual error BY A DUTCHMAN, seconds after substitution.

60 mins : Substitution: John Arne Riise for Boudewijn Zenden:
60 mins : Substitution: Salif Diao for Xabi Alonso:
60 mins : Substitution: Momo Sissoko for Craig Bellamy:
60 mins : Substitution: Lee Peltier for Jan Kromkamp:

61 mins : GOAL! Tobias Damm: Damm taps the ball home after more defensive hesitancy at the back for the Reds

Surprise surprise another goal just a single minute after a mass substitution.

    2-0 - a reasonable pre-season scoreline.

81 mins : Substitution: Jack Hobbs for Jamie Carragher:

85 mins : GOAL! Ranislav Jovanovic: Riise's back pass is intercepted by Jovanovic who slots the ball into the empty net
86 mins : GOAL! Chadli Amri: Amri beats Carson to the ball to make it 4-0 with a right footed shot
90 mins : GOAL! Fatmir Pupalovic: Pupalovic beats Hobbs down the left and slides the ball home

...Funny, so 3 of their goals came with a backline of Carson; Peltier, Hobbs, Paletta and Traore. There must be an average age of about 21 between them. 3 of them haven't amassed 10 liverpool starts between them.

4 of the goals, F-O-U-R were from individual errors. Something, I think most of us can agree, we did little of last season.

Plenty of reason to be disappointed with the performance, but not overly concerned. It's pre-season.

It could indeed. I don't expect us to underestimate them. I think we'll expect to win, but underestimating? I think a "professional" performance is in order.

    It was a pre-season friendly...

Didn't Olympiakos beat Werder Bremen 4-0 a few weeks back... does that mean the Greek League is better than the Bundesliga, or does it simply mean that Thomas Schaaf wasn't too concerned about the result?

For me, the most suprising element of all this is how fit the Dutch teams have looked, because arent the Dutch usually smoking copious amounts of Morrocan Grass whilst perusing the country's many Live Sex Clubs at this time of year??

you can't judge the strength of the leagues based on pre season, it's not a fair test - many sides experiment and fitness levels differ.

Premier League sides have reached 3 European finals in the past two years - that is a better example of how strong the league is.

I never doubt the quality of the EPL. They are the third league in Europe and may be they improve a lot more the next couple of years because the money is there. But, many people over here still believe the EPL is BY FAR the best league in Europe and where those posters get this believe from is a mystery to me. The only reason I can think of is .....

THE PRESS OVERRATES the league by hyping them up every single day.... Smile
