    Big day for certain clubs...
    Wednesday, 06 December 2006
    AC Milan v Lille, 19:45
    Anderlecht v AEK Athens, 19:45
Dynamo Kiev v Real Madrid, 19:45
    FC Copenhagen v Celtic 19:45
    FC Porto v Arsenal 19:45
    Hamburg v CSKA Moscow, 19:45
    Lyon v Steaua Bucuresti, 19:45
    Man Utd v Benfica, 19:45

    Group E

Lyon will finish top with Real in 2nd.

    Group F

All dependent on the utd-Benfica tie, utd only need a draw to progress, if Benfica win they progress and top spot in dependent on how Celtic do against Copenhagen.

    Group G

If Porto and Arsenal draw, they both go through, not entirely sure how this works though.

CSKA HAVE to win to progress and rely on a winner in the other game

    Group H

Milan will finish top, AEK need a point in Anderlecht and need AC to beat Lille... - this is a toughy to predict, not sure who I see getting the 2nd spot here.

Then by 10pm GMT tonight we'll all know the final 16 tleft in the Champs league.

Am I right in thinking the draw for the 2nd round is on Friday?

Is that because they have to wait for the UEFA cup results?

Fooking gay, suppose it gives us plenty of time to draw up the 'ideal team to face in the next round' lists ok

I'm hoping for Bayern Munich I suppose, they're the only big team likely to finish 1st that we can face....

I think we will qualify at the top of the group if we either win or draw tonight. As far as I can see, the only way we will finish second is if we lose and CSKA fail to get the result they need, but hopefully it won't come down to that.

I think so, and I just had a look on the BBC and it says this:

Arsenal are guaranteed a place in the knockout stages if they get at least a draw in Portugal. They can only fail if they lose this match and CSKA Moscow win away to Hamburg. The Gunners will win the group, providing they are not defeated in this game.

FC Porto will top the group with a victory. They also need at least a draw to be guaranteed a place in the Champions League knockout phase. Like Arsenal, a defeat will also suffice as long as CSKA Moscow do not win in Germany.

I like tables myself. This doesn't make sense.

Porto win, CSKA win: Porto (1) & CSKA (2)
Porto win, CSKA don't win: Porto (1) & Arsenal (2)
    Porto/Arsenal draw: Arsenal (1) & Porto (2)
Arsenal win, CSKA win: Arsenal (1) & CSKA (2)
Arsenal win, CSKA don't win: Arsenal (1) & Porto (2)

    correct ?

Poor deluded Barca fans, ignoring the fact both teams who play a physical, pressing game in midfield with quality have battered you this season. Played off the park against Madrid and bamboozled twice against Chelsea. Rolling Eyes

We could get Gary Mac out of retirement and still waltz any tie against your brand of circus football.

    Oli,

Don't kid yourself. There's nothing more anti-football than cheating and relying on penalties to shape your results. Fortunately the European refs appear to be off your payroll. Shame we can't say the same about last seasons final.

Um, that's why Oleguer said we wouldn't like to face you, because you have the ability to be physical and disrupt our game like those two teams did.

Considering your hatred of hype and arrogance, are you therefore a self-contradiction?

Maybe once Sheikh Mohammed takes over you can also ask him for some cash to pay the European refs.

not quite what obi meant though. ole was saying it is anti football, obi is calling it midfield quality. there is a massive difference here. plus anyone still trying to say we play anti football is clearly not worth bothering over.

    .

I don't really care what we call it, what I meant is that your midfield, like Chelsea's, is not meant to keep possession, it is a tool to stress the opponent and release the ball to the attacking players.. call it what you want..

I don't think liverpool play phyical football with a midfield of Gerread,Sissoko,Alonso and Pennent that not a vey stronge (physically) midfield IMO.

and we gave as good as we got against chelsea in the Nou camp so this phyically crap doesn't really matter the teams the do well against us are the teams the close us down in midfield see Sevilla. so bring on inter,Liverpool are who ever the team that i don't want to play is Lyon and Bayern because the really press in the middle of the field

No doubt our players wouldn't even try to stay on their feet. We'd probably need multiple stretchers at the ground too.
